Ebden vs Isner (By: Stanioooo)
1st round in Australian Open and a match between the Matthew Ebden and John Isner.
Well, these two players have three meeting till now- one in the USA on hard courts and two in England on grass. All of them were won by Isner after wins in straight sets, but some of the sets after 7:5 or 7:6, which is typical for him. So, here I'm playing against the logic(3:0 set win Isner) and there are some facts which make me absolutely confident in my bet.
Firstly, this is the first time they will play in Australia and infront of this "wild" crowd he just doesn't have the right to give up so easy. We saw two days ago how they supported till the end De Minaur and gave him the power to believe he can turn the third set after 0:4 and he did it to 5:5, but the end wasn't the dream one. This is the most obvious thing which everyone can see here-homie against American.
Secondly, Matthew Ebden had embarassing 2016 season, when he was sidelined for six months due to a knee injury. He dropped so many positions in the ranking and started as N:699 during 2017. Now he is 76 in the ranking just after one season! Here what he's said: "I feel in great shape and I've definitely improved three or four key little things in my game in the last 12-18 months and probably turned the corner mentally after being out for a bit and I've got a really good appreciation for the game". We absolutely saw that at Kooyong Classic(Australian open warm-up tournament) where he beat Marin Cilic in three sets 6:7 6:4 7:5. That was the biggest win in his career and he will enter in this first GL tournament with huge confidence. He's only behind Nick Kyrgios amongst the Australians and the crowd will wildly support him against Isner, there's no doubt.
Thirdly, in all of these three matches between them Isner was the big favourite. Now the situation is different- John is 16th in the ranking but he is not so confident on the court and unbreakable on serve. Hyeon Chung proved that breaking Isner two or three times in Auckland winning against him in three sets. Ebden succeeded to take a set against strangely motivated Kyrgios in Brisbane and was even close to beat him in straght sets after two tie-breaks, but lost the second and then the match.
Players said that the courts are even faster than last season, but the weather won't be so hot tomorrow- about 20 degrees. I think we will see long match here maybe in four or five sets, but Ebden to lose in straight sets- no way..You can also try over 39.5 games here but I'm going with over 3.5 sets and the odds are almost perfect!
