Tsurenko vs Mihaela Buzarnescu (By: Stanioooo)

Lesia Tsurenko will face Mihaela Buzarnescu in the SF in Hobart.

I can easily say I was wrong yesterday with my tip for Sabalenka's win over Tsurenko. This Ukrainian knows perfectly well how to make her opponents to make mistakes and how to return deeply the ball after aggressive serves and during rallies. Sabalenka was so disappointed and ashamed by her performance after 6:1 6:1 loss. She did almost the same against Putintseva after perfect counter-attacks against Kazakh aggressive play from the baseline. She can dictate the points very good and with her experience I think Buzarnescu will have almost no chances tomorrow.

Sharapova destroyed the Romanian last week in Shenzhen 6:3 6:0, but now in Hobart she performs really well with three wins in a row against Cornet, Friedsam and Riske. I know a lot of Romanian players amongst the women in the ranking, but Mihaela Buzarnescu is really unknown for me. I watched almost her full match against Alison Riske and wasn't very impressed. I don't know how Riske lost the first set after leading 5:2, then she was leveled to 5:5, Riske won her service for 6:5 and was leading 0:40 with 3 set points in Mihaela's serve, but Alison found a way not to break her and lost in the tie-break. Then she was totally absect-minded during the second set and the Romanian took the control and finished her 6:1. She is left-handed and is good during the rallies, but if you play aggressively against her, she hardly find the answer. That's the reason she was demolished by Sharapova last week.

I can't find any reason why not to pick Tsurenko in this match. The Ukrainian is big favourite here and I can't understand why the odds are so high- maybe they have to be something like 1.40 to 2.80, not 1.70 to 2.20. Full stake here, please!

I can't trust your pick since you don't recognise Buzarnescu as a force. Considering she was full of injuries until 28-29 years old, she didn't develop as a heavy hitter. She could still add height and muscles, but it's hard. So I don't think anymore she could be such a top player, but look, Buzarnescu plays much better tennis than Cirstea. She is equal with Begu or better because of her constancy. She is consistent with both forehand and backhand, plus she is atypical leftie and can also serve pretty well. She can pass. As a Romanian, maybe it's better for her to lose in Hobart and then try to kick Wozniacki. 6-3 6-0 for Sharapova was a lying score, plus Buzarnescu didn't have her best game in that day. Plus her father, the coach, was missing. On the other hand, against Riske she was better after the end of the first set. In my opinion you should watch Buzarnescu-Cornet match. I totally believe she could even beat players like Pavlyuchenkova in the future. She is strong enough to stay in top 50 at least.

Maybe you are right. I totally prefer to watch men tennis than women and Buzarnescu is new for me. I know a lot of Romanian players like Begu, Cirstea,Halep, Niculescu.. but this lady I hear for first time. I watched highlights against Sharapova and Riske and wasn't impressed by her. Maybe against Cornet he has played much better tennis. But you compare her with other Romanian players, not with Tsurenko for example. Here the task with the Ukrainian will be much harder.

Thanks for your reply, I agree what you say, but you said she was full of injuries, that harms very badly your self-confidence will you be able someday to show your full potential. Tsurenko knows perfectly well how to close a match, when she is leading and has the match under control. I think the situation here will be some of this kind.

Good luck!

I see that nothing changed in the case of Tsurenko. 28 years old and still nothing major, plus she always disappointed when you count on her. Bunch of overrated player, she is at the level of Ana Bogdan for me, but somehow manages to stay 40th. Maybe she can bean Niculescu, but she is inferior even to wild Cirstea not just to Begu and Buzarnescu. Buzarnescu now is at least top 3 in Romania.
