Dimitrov vs Dimitrov (By: Stanioooo)
Welcome to everyone after a long break!
I will start with something which is really tempting me for a long time- I predict a title for Grigor Dimitrov in Brisbane. The odds in bet365 are good- 3.00 and the main contenders for the title dropped out one by one. Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal will miss the tournament after they still don't feel comfortable after the injuries. Grigor is seeded as number 1 in this tournament and if you see the draw there are two players who can be real threat to him-Milos Raonic and Nick Kyrgios. I don't think Milos will be in top form after such a long period of time without matches. Alex De Minaur can cause him a lot of problems in the start of the tournament, cause he is really talanted Ausie. Nick is always playing good in Australia and he can be the biggest problem in front of Grigor. We know that Nick doesn't play too serious in some tournaments but when the courts are in Australia, he can be really tough opponent.
Last year Grigor succeeded to win the title here in Brisbane with a lot of convincing wins against top opponents like Nishikori, Thiem and Raonic. Now the situation is totally different and most of the big names don't play in this tournament, so this is a good chance for the top seeded player. Everyone knows what was the end of the last season for Grigor- he won the final tournament in London, claiming 1500 points with 5/5 wins, He is number 3 in the world, his highest ranking in the career and is full of confidence. He made a great preparation for the new season in Monaco and in the USA and his ambitions for the new season are even higher- he wants a title from the Grand Slam and why not in the next 2/3 years to see him in the top place of the ranking.
Grigor is always on fire in Australia and only players like Nadal and Federer succeeded to beat him+ the loss in the epic final in Sydney against Troicki. The draw looks good for Grigor, his first opponents look absolutely vincible, so I expect at least SF of final for Grigor, but I believe he can defend his title here. He has one match in Brisbane this season with Harrison in doubles. They beat Hewitt and Thompson.
The only negative thing I can point about Grigor is that he has never succeeded to defend his previous titles-in Stockholm, Acapulco and Queen's club. I believe he will change that these weeks in Australia and then in Sofia at home ground!
