Tampa Bay vs New Jersey by 20Legend
Tampa Bay Lightning got of too a great start with a win against Detroit Red Wings (6-4) in their opening game. However, it was some negative things that they want to fix before tonight’s game I believe. First of all, the Lightning came off to a poor start with conceding twice in the first period without responding. However, the team fought their way back in the following periods which made them able to show their strength the team has this season. Although goaltender Ben Bishop did not get to show his real potential with four goals conceded in the match. That makes their other goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy the starter in tonight’s game according to coach Jon Cooper. Right winger Ryan Callahan is missing with a hip-injury.
New Jersey Devils experienced a lost after overtime against Florida Panthers (2-1) in their first game. The Devils gave up a fair game, but they had trouble on getting their offensive going in this match. That has also been much of Devil’s problem that they too often rely on their goaltender Cory Schneider who is a strong asset to this team. It was therefore an interesting choice when Taylor Hall got traded to the club during the offseason. He could be the man to give the offensive some extra edge to help Schneider this season. Left-winger Luke Gazdic, center Sergey Kalinin (illness) and center Marc Savard are missing.
Tampa Bay Lightning has a solid team this season as I have stated in my last preview against Detroit. However, their defensive performance in that game showed that it takes time to settle in for another season. New Jersey Devils is a much deeper team compared to the Red Wings and it will be a lot harder to score on Cory Schneider. With that being said, it is not impossible as we saw in the preseason. Bishop will also want to step up his game that could make it tougher to get goals in this game.
The line is natural lower than usual with two opponents like this and I like the totals in this game. Vasilevskiy has to use his chance and his stats gives a good matchup against New Jersey Devils with a 2.60 GAA with a .913 SV% in 40 appearances in the NHL. Cory Schneider is one of the best goaltenders in this league and his target will be to keep it close as usual. I expect a total under five goals to be representative as a result.
