Stavanger vs Manglerud by 20Legend
Stavanger Oilers grabbed their fourth win in in a row when they beat Lorenskog (4-2) back on Tuesday. However, Lorenskog gave them a very tough match and did not give anything for free and was actually extremely close to make it to overtime. Lorenskog has enjoyed a boost recently with the win against rivals Valerenga (3-1) and came into the game with more confidence than ever before this season. They got the important first goal even shorthanded and it took the host completely off guard.
Lorenskog kept the lead until 13 minutes out in the second period when Dan Kissel levelled the score. Things looked to go Stavanger Oilers’ way when they took the lead for the first time in the game almost six minutes out in the third period. However, Lorenskog felt that they had nothing to lose and continued trying getting a second goal. They succeded as well with a little more than five minutes to go that sent the match into a crazy finish. Dan Kissel put his second of the night and Oilers’ ahead with 1:13 to go. Lorenskog had no other options but to pull the goaltender and try level the game once more, but it did not succeed this time. Stavanger Oilers put an empty net to seal another win, but it was not as simple as the bookmakers meant in front of the game.
Manglerud Star did finally break their losing streak of three games after beating Storhamar (2-1 after penalties) on Tuesday. It was another close game were both teams struggled on getting the initiative in the game. The goals in regular time came in the first period after Manglerud Star took the lead after 07:33 on the clock. However, Storhamar came back six minutes later and levelled the score. Both of the last periods seemed like a transport towards overtime as a lot of physical play made the tempo go down. The overtime kept the same pace and it all had to go to penalties. The home team made their second try while Storhamar missed on all three occasions which made it a home win in the end.
It is a real interesting match to be witnessing here. Stavanger Oilers is the best hockey team in Norway and seem to be cruising towards another trophy. However, the road is long and the game against Lorenskog showed that it is possible to steal points from them, even at DNB Arena. Manglerud Star on their side won their first match in four tries, but their tight discipline often makes their matches going below 5.5 goals. The home team is 10/2 in over/under 5.5 goals while Manglerud is 3/9 in the same category. It is therefore the team that often goes above the line against the least involved team in the league.
Tonight's host won 1-7 during the first meeting this season, but it was only the third game into the season. Things have settled now and I think Manglerud Stars can make it a tough task for the league leaders. Manglerud Stars has managed to keep it tight in their last two visits to DNB Arena with losing 2-1 in regular time and 2-1 after overtime. They have to step up to that level here and put up the same effort as Lorenskog did recently. Stavanger Oilers has not covered a handicap of four goals in their six home games this season. Not even against rock bottom Kongsvinger (3-0). It should be another home win here, but I do not think that Manglerud Star will be the fist team to loose with four goals at DNB Arena this season either.
