Stavanger Oilers vs Lorenskog by 20Legend
Stavanger Oilers got a shocking start to October month when they took their first loss of the season against rivals Valerenga (2-1). It was a wakeup call for the best hockey team in Norway at the moment and the team has not looked back since then. The three following games have given wins against Lorenskog (5-4), Frisk Asker (5-2) and Sparta Sarpsbrog (3-5).
Their last game was a tough challenge when travelling to Sparta Sarpsborg who is one of the better home teams in the league. Stavanger Oilers was the team with the initiative through the whole game, but Sparta Sarpsborg had really done their homework on taking advantage of the powerplay chances. They scored a powerplay goal in each of the periods, but it was not enough to stop Stavanger when they had all players on the ice. The individual skills do all the difference as it gave Stavanger the needed time and space to find the best openings in front of the opposition’s goal. After Sparta had equalized for a third time early in the third period, it was Stavanger who took the tempo up a notch. A shorthanded goal kept the initiative on their side and the final goal sealed the win 15 seconds before fulltime.
Lorenskog has struggled bigtime in the start of the season and had four straight defeats before taking on Stavanger Oilers 10 days ago. However, it was something positive over the players in this particular match that raised the collective level into a huge performance against the league leaders.
After trailing by three goals in the first period, it was not possible to understand where their energy came from in the second. Lorenskog scored 54 second out in the second period, but got a bad blow back when the home team scored 30 seconds later. However, even if they came 4-1 down, Lorenskog responded by two goals before Stavanger Oilers scored again. 5-3 cut the deposit to only two goals and it was all matches again once Lorenskog scored their fourth goal midway through the second period. It was easy to see the shock that the home team dealt with, but it was also something that made the goals stop. Both teams tried to get the next goal, but the match became so equal within the third period that none of the team was able to get the initiative.
The positive performance have given Lorenskog two more wins against rock bottom Kongsvinger (1-6) before Valerenga (3-1) was beaten badly against their rivals.
Stavanger Oilers is the best hockey team in Norway and you can almost expect goals and entertainment with the squad like this. Lorenskog is starting to turn something around for the better since their last performance at this arena. The game against Valerenga clearly showed that this team has the level to get something against the best teams. The home team is always favorites when they play, but I expect Lorenskog to give the host a real fight once again. The home team is so good offensively that it often leads to the opposition getting to score one or two themselves. Lorenskog has something to build on since they met last time, but also know how to score on them as well. Over 5.5 goals will therefore be an interesting choice tonight.
