St Truiden vs Gent by Isaiah
St Truiden had pretty decent previous season as the team managed to stay away from the relegation zone earlier than the last rounds and had an easy ending of the regular part of the season. After thirty rounds played, they ended up at 12th position at the table with seven points more than relegating placed Westerlo.
Later on, during Europa League group competition, they managed to surprise ending at first position in their group with seven victories, a draw and two defeats, having six points more than second placed Mechelen, but the team failed to obtain Europa League ticket as they lost in additional play-off game against Genk. During the preparation period, they won over amateur side Spouwen-Mopertingen, but also against Geel and Jena, winning also over Beerschot Wilrijk, but drawing in last two, against Westerlo 0:0 and Antwerp 1:1.
Gent, on the other side, barely managed to get into the Championship Group last season, ending the thirty rounds period with fifty points earned, which was just two points than seventh placed Mechelen that continued playing for Europa League exit. Later on, the side ended up as third in Belgium Jupiler Championship group stage, improving a lot.
However, with four victories, four draws and two defeats, it wasn't enough for some additional success, however the team earned Europa League qualifiers spot at least. The side has played bunch of friendly matches earlier this Summer, winning first four against amateur teams, then winning over PAOK, Lens and Beerchot, drawing against AEK Athens and losing to Nice. They already played one competitive game, having just a home draw against Altach 1:1 in third round of Europa League qualifiers.
Gent was better than Altach, but defensive mistakes cost them a lot. They are once again favorite, this time on the road and the team probably will be able to walk away with a positive result, however my first betting choice for this one will be goals, on both sides. St Truiden is dangerous and will surely try to make impression, while Gent already showed that their defensive task are not up to the decent level early in the season.
