St Johnstone vs Hibernian
St Johnstone didn't look that poor in the Premiership opening game for them, but the side still suffered 2:0 defeat away to Kilmarnock. They were a bit more passive at first than what they should but the goals came in the second halftime.
Hosts took the lead in 58th minute thanks to a goal from Boyd and only then, the players of St Johnston tried with a more riskier approach and actually were a decent opponent. However, once they opened up too much it was easy for the hosts to seal the victory thanks to a goal from Ndjoli in the 85th minute.
- The club surely aims to improve in comparison to their eight position last season aiming to avoid any kind of relegation worries.
Before the league has started, St Johnstone did well in the Betfred Cup for now having three victories and one after the penalty kicks taking the first position in their group with five points more than Falkirk and Montrose. It was a good way to improve their form with bit more competitive matches.
Left defender Brian Easton is injured. Forwards Callum Hendry and Chris Kane are also missing due injuries both having no concrete minutes in pre-season League Cup competition either.
Hibernian, on the other side, had an actually easier game against Motherwell than what was expected. They were hosts last Sunday afternoon and managed to take 3:0 victory.
However, needs to be said that it wasn't an easy game as Motherwell looked decently well and had their own chances too. On the other side, players of Hibernian exploited their chances very well. Mallan opened the scoreline in the 30th minute, while Shaw doubled up their lead just before the halftime whistle.
Guests were better in the second halftime and surely deserved more, but it was lost case from 52nd minute on when Boyle scored the third goal for the hosts.
Hibernian has played Europa League matches from the middle of July. They have already progressed over NSI Runavik and Asteras Tripolis. Last Thursday evening they had a goalless game at home against Molde in the third round. They were better mostly using counter attacks, but the goal never came.
- No doubt that some rotation is expected now, as they have no positive result ahead of the second leg played next Thursday.
Goalkeeper Ofir Marciano (first choice last season) is still out injured. Team captain and central back Darren McGregor (3 matches in Europa League) is sidelined too. Striker Florian Kamberi (5/4 in Europa League) is doubtful and might not be risked. Some rotation is confirmed by their boss. Midfielder Emerson Hyndman lacks match fitness.
It's confirmed that Hibernian boss will rotate the squad a bit here. Mostly due to their busy schedule and Europa League duties, but also due to not an easy health situation in the roster. St Johnstone has plenty to show this season and the odds surely make them a valuable option in this clash.
