Slovenia vs Spain by Isaiah
Slovenia won very difficut last night against Czech Republic and won with the score of 62:60, in a game where the score difference never gone to double digit levels. The Czechs had the ball possesion with seven seconds left to play but Lubos Barton got tangled up among three Slovenians and was called for travelling.
Generally was a bad game as both sides shot the ball poorly, as Slovenia had 34% accuracy and Czech 39%. Anyway, it wasn't the best game for Slovenia, but they got the win and that's the important thing, while Bozidar Maljkovic stated that he was relieved for the winning start, but they are now having a more difficult game against Spain.
Spain preceded very early yesterday against Croatia with double-digit difference, they had a 15-0 streak in four minutes, had some great defense, and won simple with the score of 68-40. The Croats had no appetite for defense, while to the last period they scored only three points. Surely Spain big weapon to this tournament will be their defense, as they kept Croatia without a score for more than seven minutes and generally showed great defense during whole game, making Croatia to finish with 25% shooting from the floor.
Marc Gasol scored 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Rudy Fernandez was excellent too with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Spain not only registered their most comfortable victory in a EuroBasket premiere, but also made a firm statement towards about their intentions in Slovenia.
I think that Slovenia will have a very difficult task today and that Spain will cover the handicap.
