Sligo vs Dundalk by Shibby
Ireland Premier League action for me in a game that will see Sligo Rovers host league leaders Dundalk in a 19:45 kick off (UK Time), the venue is The Showgrounds. In general Sligo have had a poor start to the season, they’ve managed to gain just 12 points from their first 15 games and currently sit in 10th place, just 1 point in-front of Bray. Their home form hasn’t been great and they currently average a point per game. Their 7 home fixtures has seen them gain just 7 points! They did win their last home game 2-0 against Drogheda United, Corcoran scoring both goals. Prior to that their last home win was against UCD back on 4th October 2014!
Both teams head into the game having not played since 05/06/2015, giving them both a week to recover and prepare for the game. Also, both teams head into this game having lost their last fixture! The hosts, Sligo, were thumped in their last game, 5-1 away to 3rd placed Shamrock Rovers. The game seemed to be over by half time with Shamrock leading 2-0, however, a goal from Corcoran in the 61stminute seemed to give Sligo fans some hope. Any hopes they had were soon dashed as 7 minutes later when the league’s leading scorer Drennan (10 goals) restored their 2 goal advantage. Sligo heads went after this goal and they soon realised this wasn’t going to be their day, a 70th minute penalty from Drennan made the score 4-1 and then Miele scored his 2nd and Shamrock’s 5th in the 93rd minute to round off a great performance. The result must have hurt Sligo and with the players they have I can see them struggling to bounce back, especially as they now face league leaders Dundalk!
Dundalk currently sit at the top of the table and have lost just once this season in the league, and this was their last fixture vs Bohemians! They lost the game 2-1. They were quite unlucky to finish with 0 points, Dundalk goalkeeper Rogers scored a 2ndminute own goal which set Dundalk on the back foot, I don’t think they fully recovered from then on really. They did pull things together in the 10th minute and got an equaliser from Massey which brought the game to 1-1. A 72nd minute from Mulcahy sealed the win for Bohemians! I think that Bohemians actually only had 2 or 3 shots on target and managed to win 2-1 and get the 3 points! Dundalk I feel just had a bit of an off day against a team that has the joint best away record in the league (Bohemians).
Dundalk have had a great start to the season and I think they have a shout in winning the league this year. They are currently 3 points in-front of Cork City with a game in hand, if they can win this that will give them a 6 point gap already and with a better goal difference (currently +27). They have a good away record themselves and have managed to get 17 points from their 7 away games. They head into this fixture having won their last 3 away games (1-2, 0-2, 0-2). These 3 games were against better opposition that Sligo so I expect them to get a result here.
There seems to be some great value available for this game with backing early, therefore, I’ve placed by bet already as I expect the price to drop the nearer it gets to kick off on Friday evening. I’ll be backing Dundalk – 0.5 AH @ a price of 1.75 with BetVictor. Good luck all.
