Skenderbeu vs Besiktas by Isaiah
Skenderbeu made a historic success to progress to the Europa League group stage, but you have to be realistic to say that they had much easier path since the team started off in Champions League qualifiers. However, this doesn't mean that the side didn't surprise and that their placement in the group stage wasn't deserved. However, a bit easier path made it possible for the Albanian side since the team only had to progress over the champions of Northern Ireland and Moldova.
In the second qualifying round of Champions League they won over Northern Irish side Crusaders with a 4:1 score at home, while the returning leg ended as a 3:2 defeat, while the third round game saw them playing against Moldovan champions Milsami and winning both matches with a 2:0 score. In the play-off round they had to play against Croatian champions from Dinamo Zagreb and the quality difference was obvious in both matches, with the Croats winning 2:1 away from home and 4:1 in the second leg at home. On the other side, Skenderbeu started well in the domestic league with three victories out of three matches, most recently coming from 2:0 victory away from home against Puka, but winning domestic leagues doesn't seem to be much of a problem for them in the recent years.
Besiktas, on the other side, entered directly into the Europa League group stage and therefore started their preparations for the new season a bit more later than other Turkish club who were involved into the qualifying rounds. Anyhow, the team looks quite well early in the season with three victories, but also a setback at home when they suffered 1:2 defeat against Trabzonspor in the second round late in August.
Apart from that game, team won over Mersin 5:2 and Gaziantepsor 4:0 on the road in between, winning also in the most recent game against Basaksehir 2:0 at home last weekend. They didn't have much of a ball possession, at least not as much as expected, but the team still managed to be more than serious in every chance created and took a professional victory without getting into the problems thanks to goals from Gomez, in 15th and 62nd minute. They are only one point below the top of the table where Fenerbahce and Trabzonspor stand, while the team has target in Europa League to get into the knock-out stage, especially in such a group where they play against Skenderbeu, but also against reputable Sporting and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Besiktas is having a decent start in the domestic league, it seems that playing away from home suits them well as the team might benefit from lack of the pressure from their fans. They have already scored nine goals in two matches on the road and in case the team shows anything similar to such offensive performances, Albanians won't stay competitive for too long during the game.
