Shamrock vs Sligo Rovers
Shamrock Rovers managed to take very important and narrow 1:0 victory away from home against Waterford last Sunday afternoon. It was a precious three pointer since both teams are involved into the battle for the third position which will be leading to Europa League next season.
The game itself was more open than what the final result says, with both teams entering the game bit slow at the start. However, as time progressed the game was better as well, while very little separated the sides on that evening. A goal from Shaw in the 75th minute made all the difference in a match where Shamrock Rovers looked like a slight underdog, at least on the paper.
They are now on the fourth position with four points less than third placed Waterford and have kept the chance of reaching the Europa League exit. The side did very well job, as they probably felt a bit tired after their Europa League game and overtime played away to AIK in the first qualifying round last Thursday.
They suffered defeat in first leg 0:1, but managed to fight back with the same victory last week thanks to the goal from Carr. However, Swedish side looked a bit more energetic in the extra time winning the clash thanks to a goal from Stefanelli in 94th minute. Overall, it could be said that even Shamrock progressing further wouldn't be such a surprise after what we've seen in both matches.
Sligo Rovers didn't play their match last weekend, but instead of it, they had a friendly one against Glentoran last Saturday afternoon. It was a god test for most of their players against a side that has some less quality comparing to other Premier Division rivals Sligo has.
In the end, they took a 1:2 victory after being a goal down, thanks to goals from McCabe in 30th and Drennan in the 57th minute. In the last competitive match they had, Sligo managed to surprise many and get a 3:0 victory on the road to Bohemians two weeks ago.
They had some really good execution in front of opponent's goalkeeper as the side took the double lead via Keaney and an own goal in the first halftime. Hosts stood playing with a man less in the 51st minute when Pender got red carded, while the three pointer was sealed in the 57th minute via Cawley.
It was a very important victory for them since this three pointer keeps them five points above the play-out placed Limerick and it's all what this season is about for them - to be away from the relegation zone.
Shamrock seems to be in decent form in the last couple of weeks and I don't see Sligo making them a lot of threatening situations in this one. It could be said that Sligo even over performed in some of their away matches, but here they certainly don't look like anything close to favorites. If Shamrock shows what they did in the last couple of matches, this could be an even easier victory for them than what the odds suggest.
