Serbia vs Slovakia by Neuro
Eight round match in the Group A of Eurobasket 2013 Qualifying stage between Serbia and Slovakia. Hosts are currently on the second position in the group and have every chance to come closer to securing Eurobasket 2013 place with a win here, while the Slovaks have no chances of reaching the desired position as they managed to win only one game out of previous seven.
Serbia had to start Eurobasket campaign from a qualifying stage after many years and although many things stayed the same in comparison to the golden basketball ages of this country, it's obvious that the approach taken from the players isn't the same as it was in previous years, or as it should be. Team is playing with many ups and downs, not being focused fully on the field for 40 minutes and they simply look careless in the defense many times, especially in the fourth quarter when the win against weaker opponents is already secured. Although qualifying to Eurobasket 2013 isn't completely in doubt, due to easier schedule, the team is finding themselves in a real mess after losing three matches out of seven played - twice to Montenegro and on the road against Israel.

Slovakia as said, has only one victory in previous seven matches. They have been drawn in a tough group, for a team of their quality and only one victory is no surprise at all. Their competition started with twenty one point loss to Estonia, then they lost against Iceland at home with six points difference, three days later Serbia defeated them with twenty two points difference, while next matches, against Israel, Montenegro and Estonia weren't any different. Finally, on Sunday evening they have earned their first victory winning against Iceland away from home with a 84:86 score.
First game between these two ended as an easy Serbian win 71:93, but even so the Slovaks made a good job being equal an equal opponent in first ten minutes and winning the fourth quarter. They used lack of concentration in Serbian defense to reduce the deficit, especially from long distance shots of their best player Gavel who is one of the leading scorers in the qualifying stage. Of course, Serbia is huge and clear favorite in this game, no matter how the things are looking for them at this moment. Still, the handicap is simply too big as the things are not looking well in their dressing room, while the Slovaks have very good 3 point shooters that can reduce the deficit to a bearable one. Additionally, the game will take place in a medium/small town with only around 2500 seats in a basketball hall. Serbian motivation to win isn't questionable of course, but so large handicap of +36.5 points is something totally different. They are playing with many ups and downs during one match, playing really focused for only few minutes per quarter. This is how they played in most of the matches till now and I don't see that changing in this anyway. There is just too much of a negative energy around the Serbian team and everything above twenty five-thirty points difference should be a bit of a surprise here.
