Scunthorpe vs Northampton by Luke
Scunthorpe is doing more than fine so far in the season, as the team currently sits at the first position after eleven rounds played. A bit surprising for sure, since they looked really sharp in previous season, but stood without promotional play-off rounds in the end and certainly weren't deemed as huge favorites for promotion this time either.
However, the team has seven victories, three draws and only one defeat so far, being four points above third placed Bury and already eight points above teams which are below the promotional battle. In the most recent game, Scunthorpe did more than fine, winning over Bury away from home 2:1, while the team also won over Shrewsbury in the Checkatrade Trophy game back on previous Tuesday with a 2:0 result. Their bid in that competition is now really strong, as the team has two victories out of two matches and continues their undefeated streak which now extends to eight matches. Josh Morris will have to pass late fitness test since he didn't train due hamstring injury.
Northampton is also having more than decent start in League One, since the team promoted previous season from League Two and didn't have really high ambitions for the first season in League One. Still the team is pretty high being currently at fifth position, with only four points less than second placed Bradford, position that will directly promote to Championship.
Till now they are having four victories, five draws and only two defeats, coming from a bit disappointing home game against Bristol Rovers as they suffered 2:3 defeat in last moments of the game. Things didn't look like that at the start, since the home team had the lead from ninth minute with a goal from Revell and were leading all the way till an hour of football played.
However, visitors reverted the scoreline with goals from Gaffney and Hartley in 60th and 71st minute and even though the players of Northampton replied in 76th via Revell again, it wasn't enough to pick up a point as they had disappointing ending of the game playing with a man less in 91st when Zakuani got red carded, while the visitors snatched a victory with a goal in next minute from Colkett. Visitors will miss anyway defender Gabriel Zakuani who is out on international duty. The team is having few knocks from last weekend but the players weren't risked during the midweek and should be ready here.
Both teams are looking pretty offensive minded in my eyes and I expect goals here. There is no doubt that the home team is a favorite to win the match, but I'll stick with goals as my first choice. They both tend to play their matches openly and have decent quality in attack, while both teams could improve their defenses. Odds are above my expectations.
