Scunthorpe vs Barnsley by Luke
Scunthorpe was very close to get a victory last weekend, but instead of a three pointer took only a draw in a 2:2 result away from home against Colchester. They were leading 2:0 already in seventeenth minute thanks to goals from van Veen and Madden, but the opponents managed to reduce the deficit near the end of the first halftime, conceding the equalizer nine minutes before the end.
This was third consecutive match without a victory for them, having second consecutive tie. However, at their own fans they are undefeated in previous three matches, conceding only one goal so far. Coach Mark Robins said that he was disappointed after the game as the team didn't get the three pointer, but added that he was pleased to see the team reacting well when defending set-pieces, adding that he is optimistic the things will get better as the time goes by. Defensive Niall Canavan (1/0) is out, same as offensive player Luke Williams (1/0), while sidelined is also midfielder Jamie Ness (1/0) who will hardly play tonight.
Barnsley suffered quite harsh defeat last weekend, coming from a 3:0 loss away to Rochdale. They conceded two goals in the first halftime and couldn't generally react, conceding one more in the second. Coach Lee Johnson was disappointed with the latest result, but said that he isn't worried yet adding that the team has plenty of times to correct their mistakes as they do have quite a busy schedule.
However, he added that there is no excuse for such an ugly performance with couple of players really under performing below any standard. They've been playing quite open minded football so far away from home, with all three league matches ending as over 2.5 goals, disregarding whether their attack works or not. After five rounds, team is at the middle of the table, but what worries is their defense that conceded eight goals in five rounds so far. Only injury absentee for this game will be midfielder Ryan Williams, but he anyway didn't play this season.
Open game is expected with both teams playing better in offense, while their defensive lineup looks quite unreliable. Both teams to score and over goals are my first choice here.
