Schalke vs Bayern Munich by Gustav
Schalke opened the season with a bit surprising victory at home over Leipzig, but then suffered defeat away to Hannover with a narrow result, however bounced back in a positive way after international break. They firstly won at home over Stuttgart 3:1, but also recorded their first victory on the road, last Saturday afternoon when the side won over Werder Bremen 1:2.
Their opponents opened the game a bit better and took the lead in 20th minute with a goal from Sane, but the visitors were a bit lucky too since they managed to level up the result just two minutes later via an own goal. However, players of Schalke proved to be much more concrete in the second halftime and were willing to risk a bit more towards the end, scoring the precious goal via Goretzka in 83rd minute. The team is now sharing the third position with Bayern Munich, being just a point below first placed duo from Dortmund and Hannover.
Schalke should be playing in 3-4-2-1 formation with Burgstaller as central striker, plus Harit and Konoplyanka as his offensive support. Offensive midfielder Alessandro Schopf (3/1) is doubtful but with chances to play.
Bayern Munich, on the other side, comes from a convincing performance and a victory taken in front of own fans against Mainz last weekend with impressive 4:0 score. They also got an easy three pointer in the Champions League opener against Anderlecht with a 3:0 result, making their week perfect this time.
Start against Mainz was more than strong, as the Bavarians had chance after chance, taking the lead in eleventh minute via Muller, while Robben doubled up the lead in 23rd minute. Lewandowski was the start of the second halftime and managed to seal the victory with his two goals, in 50th and 77th minute. As said, they are now a point behind league leaders and surely going into this clash wanting nothing else but a three pointer.
Visitors are set to play in 4-2-3-1 formation, logically with Lewandowski as central striker and Coman, Muller and Ribery as offensive midfielders behind him. Offensive Arjen Robben is suffering from flu and might sit out this one. Left full back David Alaba (2/0), midfielder Juan Bernat (2/0) and first choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (3/0) are missing due injuries.
- Bayern have scored at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 away matches against Schalke.
- Schalke are undefeated in their last 9 home matches (Bundesliga).
After Bayern made a setback in last away game against Hoffenheim, I expect the side to enter their next matches on the road in Germany way more careful and with respect towards the opponent. Schalke is in a decent momentum and surely able to score here, but I don't see them actually stopping the Bavarians this time. There's way more individual quality that speaks in favor of the visitors here, even though the hosts alone do stand a decent chance to net at least one goal.
