Sarpsborg 08 vs Viking by 20Legend

Sarpsborg 08 has clearly not been able to concentrate after the club’s success this season. After they come up challenge the top 3 teams, people started to talk about a possible medal this season. That has just been their ultimate weak-link with 1-2-3 form in the league, but also getting smashed out of the cup against Bodo/Glimt (4-0) last Wednesday. The club have now sunken into 7th place, but with the same amount of points as Viking. It is still not over yet for getting back into a possible top 3, but it will be tough as the season is really closing in. However, it is possible to see a tendency that is not to their liking based on the recent performances.

Viking finally won a game of football against as they beat Molde (1-0) last weekend. Even if the game was a close battle, it was certainly Viking that was the better team. They created the only chance in the first half, which ended up being the only goal after nine minutes. The second half was opening up even bigger chances for them to extend their lead twice. However, the efficiency was no way near good enough and the concentration started to fade a bit during stoppage time. Their defense made two errors in a row that could have cost them two points, but luckily for them Molde had a horrible day at work.

Viking was able to neutralize their opponents for 90 minutes, and if you take away the stoppage time of four minutes it was only one team that wanted to win. It was a great feeling for Viking after experiencing a very frustrating period with 0-3-2 on the previous five games. That period brought them down from the fight for a top 3 position, but the win against Molde put them back. With a 6th place and 36 points it is just five points up to 2nd placed Brann with six games to go.

Sarpsborg 08 has lost three games in a row in all competitions now which is clearly affecting the players. After being mentioned as a top 3 candidate after their previous stable form, it has all gone straight downwards for them. However, it is still possible for them to get back into the fight as they have the same amount of points as Viking. That makes this match really important for both teams and I think that it will affect the amount of goals in this match. Sarpsborg 08 has only conceded six goals in 12 home games and it should be difficult for Viking to dominate here. Viking is one of the best away teams this season and has often been involved in matches over 2.5 goals when travelling. However, I think that the importance of not losing will overshadow the amount of goals tonight and I pick under 2.5 goals.
