Salzburg vs Ried by Gustav
In a match that turned out to be complete formality, Salzburg took an easy 6:0 victory over Neustadt last weekend and managed to keep six points distance in comparison to second position. Everything became easier after their double lead within four minutes, in 28th and 32nd minute, as the home side controlled the game from that moment on, proving once again that they are the strongest side in the league.
They have created more than many chances and could have scored more goals, reaching the final whistle even without a double digits score. There were simply too many defensive mistakes against much poorer squad, as the team returned to winning ways after a 3:3 game against Rapid away from home previous weekend. The team also awaits a Cup game on Tuesday evening, where they play against Grodig. The team is now at turning point in the season, aiming their fourth consecutive victory at home and will surely want to seal the three pointer as soon as possible. Left back Andreas Ulmer (17/1) is serving his second game suspension, while central defender Isaac Vorsah (no performance yet in the season) is close to returning to his full fitness. Right back Christian Schwegler (17/2) is injured, while doubtful remain other right back, Danish Peter Ankersen (18/1).
Ried had once again very unimpressive performance, coming from a narrow home defeat against Rapid last weekend with a 0:1 score. The game itself was quite balanced, but the opponent managed to score the only goal in 36th minute, without a proper response from the home side, except for a situation or two in front of visitors' goal.
It was probably their last chance to reduce the difference between the positions that lead to Europa League, as the team now has only mathematical chances, but in reality their chances were written off already couple of weeks ago. There are no competitive motives left for them, except the fact that the team now can try some younger players in order to build up their plan for the upcoming season. Important midfielder Patrick Moschl (23/3) suffered injury and won't be playing here. Defensive Bernhard Janeczek (23/1) is also remaining sidelined with injury, while outside are also midfielders Denis Streker (20/1) and Thomas Murg (26/2). Offensive Clemens Walch (24/4) is also having injury problems, while doubtful is another midfielder, Marcel Ziegl (21/0).
After their victory over Neustadt, it's hard to see players of Salzburg losing a chance to get another morale boosting three pointer in front of important Cup game. Home side has so much more quality and if they take the game anywhere close to serious, they should have two goals lead already at the halftime.
