Roma vs Sassuolo by Enzo

After three consecutive defeats in three different copetitions, Roma bounced back with much better performance and improvement last weekend away from home against Palermo in a 0:3 victory. El Shaarawy opened up the scoreline in 22nd minute deservedly, as Roma looked slightly better for the most of the game, while Dzeko and Peres sealed the victory with goals in last fifteen minutes of the match.

With this victory, Roma remained at second position having eight points less than first placed Juventus and just two more than third placed Napoli, which means that they remain in a must win situation. Despite a pretty solid performance on Thursday evening in Europa League and a 2:1 victory at home over Lyon, players of Roma didn't manage to progress further since they lost the first leg with a two goals difference. Home team will miss right back Alessandro Florenzi (9/0) due knee injury and he should be their only absentee.

Sassuolo, on the othe side, suffered narrow 1:0 defeat in front of own fans last weekend as the team welcomed Bologna but stood with empty hands. This was their third game without a victory, but maybe more importantly, three game where the team failed to score a single goal.

They continue to be near the middle of the table being at thirteenth position and could be more than satisfied that they are sixteen points above relegating worried sides, since their quality and form are far below previous' season. Forward Gregoire Defrel (23/8) is doubtful for this match after missing previous two, but could be involved for some time. Central defender Luca Antei (14/1) is injured, same as midfielders Stefano Sensi (9/1), Francesco Magnanelli (13/0) and Davide Biondini (11/0).

  • Roma have scored at least 2 goals in their last 6 matches against Sassuolo.

Roma failed to progress further in the Europa League and now need to improve here. Their focus is now solely on the domestic league as Napoli remains within touching distance of the second place. Sassuolo isn't looking that promising as in previous season and I don't see visitors remaining fully competitive for the all ninety minutes.
