PSV vs Groningen by Meese
PSV opened the season in the best possible way, since the team has now three consecutive victories in Eredivisie and can't be in much better position ahead of even more important matches in the league as well as before the start of the Champions League group stage. Apart from that, they have also won the Super Cup title by defeating Feyenoord prior the start of Eredivisie with 1:0 result.
In the most recent game, they completely outplayed Zwolle 4:0 away from home, dominating from the first till last moment. They opened up the scoreline with goal from Isimat-Mirin in 22nd minute, doubling up the lead in 35th via Hendrix, while the visiting side netted two more in last five minutes of the game thanks to de Jong and Berdwijn. They are now first at the table together with Feyenoord and Den Haag, so a victory here is a must for them as there's no doubt that the team wants to be alone at the table as soon as possible.
Home side should be playing in 4-3-3 formation with Locadia, Narsingh and Jong as forwards. Their manager Phillip Cocu has no injury nor suspension worry ahead of this match. He should retain pretty much the same starting lineup which played against Zwolle last weekend.
Groningen is surely the team that disappointed the most for now, being the only team without a point earned so far after three rounds played. Moreover, they have conceded already eleven goals during these three, showing huge problems in their defensive lineup.
After two matches without scoring a goal, since they lost to Feyenoord 5:0 at home and 2:0 on the road to Excelsior, Groningen improved a bit in the last match previous weekend, but still suffering 3:4 defeat to Twente in front of own fans. It was quite an equal game, but Unal ruined them with three goals scored inside the first halftime, while the hosts appeared much better in the second halftime and managed to level up the score via goals from Mahi, idrissi and Hoesen, but lost concentration in last minutes and still didn't walk away with a point earned since they conceded the goal in second minute of additional time via Oosterwijk.
Visitors from Groningen should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Weert as alone striker, but also with Rusnak, Drost and Antonia as offensive midfielders. Central defender Kasper Larsen won't be playing here, but apart from him, visitors have no other absentee worry.
- PSV Eindhoven have won 13 of their last 16 home matches against FC Groningen.
- PSV Eindhoven have scored at least 2 goals in 8 of their last 9 home matches against FC Groningen.
PSV are surely going into this one wanting to maintain their 100% rate at the start of the season and I believe they'll do it with ease here. Even easier than what the current odds suggest, since the players of Groningen didn't show anything special till now in the season, losing all three opening matches so far.
