PSV Eindhoven vs Utrecht

PSV managed to get the title last season in Eredivisie ending with four points more than second-placed Ajax. The truth is that they reached the title few weeks before since they ended the season with three back to back draws when it didn't matter much anymore for them.

However, their ambitions are going with the European path as well and that's where they seek improvement while the title remains their primary goal for the Eredivisie. Even though the team looked decently well in pre-season friendly matches as they won over Galatasaray 3:1, Olympiakos 4:0 and in the last rehearsal game winning over Valencia 2:1 - their competitive part of the season didn't start in the best possible manner.

The team suffered defeat in Super Cup match against Feyenoord last weekend losing the trophy on penalties after a goalless ninety minutes. Still, should be said that PSV was more dominant on the field but only the goal was missing. On the other hand, they limited Feyenoord to a pretty defensive role and the opponents were lucky to snatch out the victory in the end.

The club also signed left-back Angelino from Manchester City, right defender Denzel Dumfries from Heerenveen and couple of more on transfer free deals. Right back Santiago Arias went to Atletico Madrid, left-back Joshua Brenet gone to Hoffenheim. Central back Jordy de Wijs left for Hull.

  • Overall, the team hasn't changed much. Mark van Bommel will be their new head coach signing a three years contract this Summer.

Offensive midfielder Ramon Pascal Lundqvist is injured and won't perform here.

Utrecht had actually quite a positive previous season but disappointed int he every end of the competitive matches. They ended up fifth in the last edition of Eredivisie, surely being most positive surprise overall. However, their additional play-off matches for the Europa League ticket didn't go as planned and they lost the ticket in last matches against Vitesse. Surely that they would have nothing against repeating similar season this year as well.

They had quite a number of friendly matches firstly winning two against amateur clubs, but then winning over Ross County 2:0 too.

  • Once they entered a bit more serious phase, results weren't that great as they have the only victory over Arsenal Tula, losing to Salzburg and Kasimpasa.

Their last two matches saw them getting a draw, it was a 1:1 game against Portsmouth and a 2:2 draw against Levante last Thursday evening.

Offensive midfielder Simon Gustafson was signed from Feyenoord, while central midfielder Joris van Overeem came from AZ Alkmaar. Central defender Emil Bergstrom was signed from Rubin Kazan on a free transfer. IMportant offensive midfielder Zakaria Labyar went to Ajax for six million euros. Central midfielder Yassin Ayoub gone to Feyenoord on a free transfer.

PSV is awaiting play-off round for the Champions League group stage very soon, where they'll most likely meet BATE Borisov. Therefore, the team needs to get their right form as soon as possible. They weren't that bad against Feyenoord, but need to be far more concrete in front of opponents goal. This game comes as a perfect chance to boost everything around the club.
