Palmeiras vs Atletico Mineiro by Enzo
Palmeiras didn't have one of the best matches so far in the season, but the team still managed to take all three points last weekend away to Internacional following their narrow 1:0 victory. Only goal was scored back in eleventh minute thanks to Erik, with the visiting team didn't show much of their offensive potential during the game. Probably, they were satisfied with the lead and since the home team was unable to make any dangerous situation in front of their goal, they played a bit more cautious and sealed the victory easily in the end.
This was their fourth consecutive game without defeat, having three victories and a draw, as the team remained at the top of the table with three points more than second placed Corinthians and six points more than fourth placed Santos, meaning that the target of reaching Copa Libertadores is very close for them now and the team remains in a must win situation for the title race.
Palmeiras will probably be playing in 4-2-1-3 formation with Dudu, Erik and Guedes as forwards and Xavier as offensive midfielder. Gabriel Jesus and Fernando Prass are both away with the Brazilian national team. Forward Alecsandro (5/1), defensive midfielder Gabriel and central midfielder Moises (14/2) are out injured. This means Thiago is sure to keep his position in the middle.
Atletico Mineiro, on the other side, comes from a 2:1 victory at home over Coritiba last weekend, in a game where they deserved the three pointer, but reached it a bit more difficult than what was expected.
Players from Atletico took the lead just before the halftime whistle via Robinho, but the visitors replied in 76th thanks to Carlinhos. Even though there was little time left, hosts managed to respond and seal the victory in 84th minute with the second goal from Robinho. After this victory, they remained higher at the table, currently at eight position with twenty-three points earned, three less than fourth placed Santos.
Visitors are set to play in their usual 4-2-3-1 formation with Fred as their number nine and Maicosuel, Robinho and Clayton as offensive support behind the striker. Central defender Edcarlos (4/0), central midfielder Junior Urso (11/1) and right full back defender Marcos Rocha (11/0) are all sidelined due injuries for the visiting side. On the bright side, they welcome back Frickson Erazo and Leandro Donizete this weekend. Newly signed Romulo Otero should be part of the team already.
- Palmeiras are undefeated in their last 8 home matches (Brasileirao).
- Atletico MG have scored at least 2 goals in 6 of their last 7 matches against Palmeiras.
Home side is missing two important players due Olympic Games and will probably be weakened in next weeks, however I still believe that they have plenty of quality to overcome the opponent here. Atletico is yet to get a victory on the road this season and I'm sure they will have plenty of problems to stay undefeated here.
