Padova vs Palermo by Sunshine
Padova didn't make the right step into the new season as they lost a home opener with a 0:2 score against newly promoted Trapani, side that nobody gives many chances to have a safe debuting season. Things to be even worse, they were knocked out from the Italian Cup against the same opponent that defeated them 1:0 on the road.
So, it was strange enough that the team didn't react much better in the league match, knowing that they had enough time to analyze their mistakes. Now, they are in a situation that they have to search for a better result against one of the strongest, at least individually sides Palermo. Their second round's match against Trapani was postponed so the team had enough time to repair well for this game. They brought some new players, trying to reinforce their defense especially and it's expected that their two new defenders, Ceccarelli and Santacroce get their playing time from the first minute - however it's highly questionable how will they two work together. The team has no injury or suspension worries towards the game against Palermo and we shouldn't expect changes in midfield and attacking line.
Just like their opponents, neither Palermo opened the season in a best possible way as they earned only a point from first two rounds. Surely, it's more than very little for a team that is one of the strongest by individual quality and for a team that is eager of bouncing back to the first tier of Italian football.
They started the season with a 1:1 draw away to Modena in a game they were leading from 45th till very last minutes of the game, but the home side still deserved their point. Even though everyone thought they will make a better performance in a home match against Empoli, they failed to get anything out of the game and were stuck to a 1:2 defeat. However, exclusion of their player N'Gory influenced the match a lot, as Palermo had to play with a man less since 27th minute. Truth to be told, they have lost, but weren't outplayed even when playing with ten men into the field. Coach Gennaro Gattuso is expected to make some changes in the original lineup, as offensive midfielder Di Gennaro (2/0) and central defender Munoz are expected to return to the starting lineup. Defender Aronica, midfielder Barreto and striker Lafferty (2/0) remain injured, while midfielder N'Goyi (2/0) misses the game due to his red card in previous match.
Padova didn't show anything special in the first match in the season and it's hard to imagine them now bouncing back with way better performance. Palermo on the other side, must start performing sooner or later and having in mind that they had a player less but still very competitive against Empoli, gives them some extra credit. Guests should be much closer to get the victory, although the draw can't be excluded.
