Newcastle vs Watford by Shibby
Barclays Premier League action tomorrow (19/09/2015) at St. James Park in a game that will see Newcastle United host Watford. The game will kick off at 15:00. The hosts for the game, Newcastle head into the game as slight favourites, something they won’t be too often throughout the season in my opinion. Newcastle have started the season very poorly and as I’ve stated in my previous posts, don’t strike me as a solid team under Steve McClaren. I backed West Ham the other day myself as Newcastle have really been struggling in-front of goal and don’t look like they could hit the target too often this season.
They head into the game on the back of 2 straight defeats (Arsenal and West Ham) both games ended with Newcastle scoring 0. Looking at Newcastle’s first 5 games of the season, 4 of them have ended with under 2.5 goals. The only game that didn’t was the opening game vs Southampton (finished 2-2). Newcastle currently lie bottom of the table on just 2 points from 5 games.
The pressure is increasing for McClaren and I think he may have convinced his players that this is a game that they can actually win?! He really needs a result vs new boys Watford and I expect a very nervous start to the game as I think they will look to keep a clean sheet and to avoid defeat. Mitrovic is still suspended for the game and won’t feature, I expect Cisse to lead the line in his absence, he did start vs West Ham and didn’t score, however, I think the home fans could prove vital tomorrow. Maybe De Jong could play a part too, however, Tiote, Williamson, Taylor, Dummett, Riviere and Marveaux are all out.
The visitors for the game are new boys Watford, they’ve started the season better than Newcastle and are currently in 13th place on 6 points from 5 games. Watford have only lost 1 league game from their first 5 and that was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Ethiad so no major shock there. Like Newcastle, Watford have also seen under 2.5 goals in 4 out of their first 5 games. The only game that saw over 2.5 goals was a 2-2 draw with Everton on the opening day and this is a game they should have won, a late goal secured a point for Everton. Watford don’t look great going forward and like Newcastle will struggle to score too many goals this term. However, at the back they’ve looked solid and have been difficult to break down for even the best teams. They’ve kept West Brom, Southampton and Swansea from scoring.
Their new manager Quique Sanchez Flores has started life with Watford really well. He sends his team into the game vs Newcastle on the back of a 1-0 win against high flying Swansea City. What worries me is the form of skipper, Troy Deeney, he hasn’t scored a single goal this season and needs to hit the net sooner rather than later.
Taking all the above into account, I think this will be a very tactical game and one with very few goals. Both teams will not want to lose and as a result I can see this been a low scoring game. If I were pushed I’d say 1 or 2-0 win for Newcastle. For some reason I fancy them to win, however, they are unpredictable so I’ll be backing Under 2.5 goals @ 1.75 with BetVictor. Good Luck all.
