Newcastle vs Sheffield Wed by Luke
Newcastle comes from their third consecutive victory, as the team managed to overpower last weekend Burton away from home, mostly thanks to their fighting spirit in the first halftime. Visitors took the lead first via Gayle in 16th minute and even though Dyer replied just four minutes later, Magpies took the lead again in 34th via Diame.
Rest of the game was spent mostly with Burton having more of the ball possession and trying, while it looked like players of Newcastle were trying to reach the end of the game with as little as possible energy spent. Three consecutive victories kept the team at the top of the table, having just a point more than second placed Brighton, but much more important, having nine points more than third placed Reading as everyone sees now Newcastle being the first and red hot candidate for promotion.
Newcastle should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Gayle as central striker, plus Gouffran, Diame and Ritchie as offensive midfielders. Midfielder Rolando Aarons (4/0) and central defender Grant Hanley (5/1) are injured, as well as midfielder Jack Colback (11/0) who has some chances to play still. Suspended is midfielder Jonjo Shelvey (22/3).
Sheffield Wednesday, on the other side, comes from a narrow 1:0 home victory over rock bottom placed Rotherham last weekend. It was their third consecutive home victory and fourth in last five matches, as they defeated the opponent a bit more difficult than what was expected prior the game.
They did dominate the game and had much more chances created and wast majority of the ball possession, however without converting it into proper goal, while players of Rotherham were limited to a very defensive role. Hosts deserved to score earlier, but needed a penalty kick in fifth minute of additional time in order to seal the three pointer via Fletcher. After this victory, the team remained in play-off zone, being currently at sixth position with just a point more than out of play-off zone placed Derby.
Visitors of Sheffield Wednesday are set to play in 4-4-2 formation with Fletcher and Joao as strikers. Striker Fernando Forestieri is available after serving suspension. Offensive midfielder William Buckey (8/0) and forward Gary Hooper (17/5) are injured. Doubtful for tonight's game are midfielders Almen Abdi (11/0), Kieran Lee (22/4) and Barry Bannan (20/1).
- Newcastle have scored at least 2 goals in 9 of their last 11 matches (Championship).
Newcastle are coming into this match having three victories in a row and I don't see players of Sheffield Wednesday being able to stop them here. Magpies should have the quality to overcome the opponent in easy manner.
