Brooklyn Nets vs Philadelphia 76ers (By: Miyagi)
The Sixers were eager to bounce back after that Game 1 loss and, as expected, they had a strong start in Game 2 of the series. They finished the first quarter with a 6-point lead, shooting above 56% from the field (65% 2P) with just 1 turnover. The momentum was clearly on their side and things started to get out of control after another strong start and a 10-3 run in the second quarter which gave them a 13p lead! To their credit, the Nets fought back and with some great shooting from beyond the arc (10-23 3P, 43%) managed to keep it close and go into the half trailing by just one point.
Things, though, got out of control for real in the third quarter as the Sixers started with an incredible 21-2 run in the first four minutes and a 20p lead, which increased to 29p by the end of the third. The Nets kept fighting but missing Davis (had early foul trouble, did not play in the second half) and Kurucs (foul trouble) their front line was too weakened, they could not set pick-and-rolls or move the ball as efficiently as they did in the first game and eventually they surrendered to the better Sixers.
All in all, the Sixers did their homework and were great tactically, especially in defense, while on the other side, the Nets just rested on their laurels.
The Nets' bench ranks 2nd in the league in efficiency (58.7) right behind the great Clippers' while the Sixers' bench ranks 27th (38.1).
SU: The Nets are 23-18 at home and the Sixers are 20-21 on the road (regular season), their H2H record this season is at 3-3 (playoff included).
Despite the fact that the Nets were sloppy and unprepared for that second game, they still managed to stay competitive for 3 quarters and that, above all, has to be encouraging. We can't talk about how they should not give that much space to Embiid again, or how sharpshooters like Joe Harris (as he said in post game interview) should be aggressive and find other ways to be dangerous when screens don't work.
There is huge excitement among the fans as they get to see their team back in the playoffs and a very loud arena is expected today, which will give an extra push to their young, enthusiastic players and probably some extra advantage in other ways... Sure thing is that the Nets will be much better prepared today compared to that second game. A sure thing is also that the Sixers have the stars but at the same time, they haven't proved their worth to be considered favorites on the road and let's not remember what happened in the playoffs against the Celtics last season. Some people 'trust the process', I trust the Nets.
