Atlanta Hawks vs New York Knicks (By: Miyagi)
The Knicks are on their way to break some shameful records as they have now lost 18 games in a row! They are in full tank mode, yeah, but that is just not right. They have young players as well as a coach who have egos and dignity and there is no doubt that they want to win, things just don't go their way so far.
The truth is that the Knicks have improved recently and they deserved something better, maybe a win, out of their last 3 games as they fought hard against the Cavs and the Raptors. The most important thing though is that their bench has done some great things in those last 3 games as they combined for 54p against the Cavs, then just 4 players combined for 45 points against the Raptors and yesterday, against the Sixers, their bench combined for a huge 74 points!! The Knicks as a team have also improved their effective possession ratio and turnovers as of late.
The Hawks come from a massive win over the Lakers, or maybe the Lakers didn't actually need their help to lose that game! Lebron was probably the only determined player for the Lakers and nobody can blame the rest of his teammates as they might all feel expendable after those crazy trade offers for Davis but that game was a parody and that crazy situation where the Lakers were down by 4 and almost a full possession clock remaining but somehow none of their players fouled the Hawks could easily be the sum up of that game for the Lakers!
Anyway, my point is that the win against that circus should not be regarded as a big achievement for the Hawks. Still, they are in much better form than the Knicks and their offense is doing a lot better but they also have weaknesses and flaws, and quite a lot of those actually!
The Hawks rank dead last in turnovers per game in the league, with 17.7 per game at home, while the Knicks are the exact opposite, especially on the road where they rank 5th in turnovers per game with just 12.7. The Knicks also rank 5th in effective possession ratio during their last 3 games while the Hawks rank dead last and they have a much better defensive efficiency than the Hawks during that stretch. So, the Knicks have something to work with here!
With DeAndre in their starting lineup, they have the edge (big time) inside the paint and some great rim protection. Dennis Smith is having great games with the Knicks and it will be a close battle with Trae. With their bench on fire, the Knicks need Vonleh to handle Collins and Knox to have a solid game and they will win their first (and only) series of the season as they lead 2-1 over the Hawks in their 3 meetings.
