San Antonio Spurs vs Toronto Raptors (By: Miyagi)
This is one of the most anticipated games of the season so far and it's more than just a regular season game for the fans and many players. Kawhi returns to San Antonio for the first time since that blockbuster trade but he is 'persona non grata' given how he opted to force his way out of the team. On the other side, DeRozan will face his former team who traded him against his will and maybe revenge mode is on but the only sure thing is that he has been waiting for this game.
There are many changes and there will be more by the start of this game, Lowry's and Gay's statuses have been upgraded and they are expected to dress up for this one at least for now.
DeRozan is going to be guarded by Kawhi and that's one of the few things we can be sure ahead of this game, while Kawhi will be guarded by Gay but if he won't make it, the Spurs will have to go for double-teams on Kawhi a lot more often. Kawhi is an elite defender but DeRozan is not a typical shooter, he is a scorer, with great abilities. They have gone head to head (with Kawhi assigned to guard DeMar) twice, although it was 3 seasons ago, and DeMar scored 26 and 28 points in those games.
There is no doubt that DeMar will be fully motivated and so will be coach Popovic who did not like Kawhi's tactics, he (Popovic) knows Kawhi better than anyone else and he will create all sorts o troubles for him on both ends of the court today. DeMar could stay on the court for 40+ minutes like he has done multiple times already this season, and he is actually expected to do so today, so there is absolutely no doubt that he can cover this line...but the offered odds are ridiculously low and that's on purpose!
