Montpellier vs St Etienne by DamirJ
Montpellier showed to everyone that thought this season, after winning the Championnat last season, will be much worse for them - that they are right. Collecting only four points in first five rounds isn't suitable for current champions in any league and the things will have to be improved soon.
Last Friday they played away to Reims, but yet again showed a poor display losing to newly promoted team 3:1. That was their third defeat in the season, playing not fluently enough in the attack with big defensive mistakes. Just three days ago, they played against Arsenal in a Champions League debut, but once again they left the field with a bowed head, this time 1:2 loss. Although, the game itself started great for the French side, with a leading goal from Belhanda, but Arsenal needed just ten minutes to overturn the game to 2:1, which proved to be a final score.
However, everyone in the club is stating that they are more than determined to overturn the situation in this game. Saying that they did very good against a world class team (Arsenal) and that in case that they repeat the same performance, win shouldn't be questionable tonight. Only absent player will be striker Utaka for this clash, while in-form Herrera should return at the top of the attacking line.
St Etienne, although previously looked like a good form, they are coming from a 0:1 home loss to Sochaux. However the game was shadowed with weird decisions from referee starting with a red card to St Etienne in tenth minute of the game.
They have actually played that game very good, with some really nice chances in front of Sochaux's goal and clearly deserved at least one goal scored, but the final result was just too disappointing for them - although they played with a man less during the most of the time. Before this game, they earned two victories in a row, against Bastia and Brest, scoring seven goals in two matches. When you add good performance with a man down, there is no reason to doubt that they are in a really fine form at this moment. However, they will have some problems in the defense this evening as they will be without Brison who got red carded in previous round, guy that plays at the position of defensive midfielder or left back. Furthermore, Clerc, right back and Zouma central defender are out for this game.
Montpellier is expected to start strongly pushing for the goal from the beginning of the game, while St Etienne does have problems in the defense, but surely won't be defending all the game. They proved that the attack is better part of their team and surely will be trying to make something in front of the opponents goal too. Goal line is set here a bit lower and having in mind circumstances in front of the game, that the host have to attack, set goal line looks valuable at this moment.
