The MLB Season

Major League Baseball, or MLB, is the biggest pro baseball league in Northern America. It's the oldest of four major sports leagues in the US and Canada.

It consists of 30 clubs divided into National League (NL) and American League (AL), with fifteen teams in both leagues. Each league has three divisions (Central, Eastern, and Western) consisting of four, five or six teams.

Today, the modern season is having thirty teams: twenty-nine in the United States and one in Canada.

Each team plays 162 games during the regular part of the MLB season. The five top teams in each league advance to a four-round postseason tournament, that ends with a World Series. World Series is a best of seven finals clash between the two league champions, that goes back to 1903.

Sportsbook rules

Sportsbooks are having different rules regarding pitcher change prior to the game. It's essential to keep that in mind when you make your MLB tips. The pitcher is a player who throws the ball from the mound towards the catcher to begin each play.

The pitcher is the most important player in terms of skills and abilities. Surely is the toughest position in baseball. When there is a pitcher change, the betting odds are changing too.

Many European or lower reputation bookies, keep those rules inside the whole sportsbook rulebook. More reputable ones are even having the option for each player to choose.

In case you have "action" written next to your bet, it means that your wager is still good and active, no matter who pitches for the teams involved.

In case you have the term "listed", it means that you are taking the wager with the probable pitchers that are listed to start at that time. If there is a pitcher change, the bet will be canceled.

Baseball betting options

The most popular MLB betting option is picking a winner. However, run lines (like Asian handicaps for European punters), and totals, are taking its share as well. These three options can be found at any sports betting site.

Total runs

The player predicts whether a certain game will end with more of fewer run lines than the bookmaker's margins are. It's basically the same as over/under in soccer or basketball.

One of the things to pay attention is whether the bookmaker counts additional extra inning as well. Most of the bookmakers do count.

Run line

Basically, it's the same option as the Asian handicap in soccer or other sports. The player predicts if a certain team will cover the added spread line from the bookmaker.

Also, it's essential to understand if the bookmaker counts extra inning since it's more difficult to cover bigger spread lines if you know everything comes down to one extra inning.

Alternative Run Lines & Alternative Game Totals

As MLB predictions, betting trends, and the wagering on MLB became popular, the demands from players are getting higher. So, further betting options were introduced.

Bookmakers like Pinnacle Sports and Bet365 are offering a wide range of additional totals and run lines.
