Mjondalen vs Sandnes Ulf by 20Legend
Mjondalen has been coming as a rocket upwards the table after experiencing a horrific start in the beginning of the season. 9-4-2 since June 11th has brought the club from ruins into 6th place with 42 points to show for. That is the same amount of points as 5th placed Kongsvinger and it is just three points up to 4th placed Sandnes Ulf. Mjondalen is clearly one of the in-form teams in this league at the moment with 3-1-1 and 12:4 on goal difference from their last five games. It is especially the last two games that represent their great form these days. First they smashed Ranheim 6-2, after leading 6-0 until the 88th minute. Secondly, they also beat 1st placed Kristiansund (0-2) last weekend. Mjondalen’s positive energy is finally starting to look similar to the energy from 2014 when the club made it to Tippeligaen for the first time ever.
Kristiansund was reduced from league leaders into looking like a reserve team in the end. After a long half with a lot of physical duals, Mjondalen grabbed the lead just before halftime which was a perfect timing. Kristiansund made a change to their lineup into the second half in order to get back into the game and it looked brighter for them once Mjondalen’s Matthias Fredriksen got his second yellow card after 57 minutes. However, Mjondalen continued going forward and it paid off with a second goal only five minutes after the red card. That really gave Krisitansund a tough task to follow and their motivation vanished. Mjondalen became naturally more defensive minded after the second goal and secured three unexpectedly easy points with them. Midfielder Vamouti Diomande (3/0) has been out all season. Defender Ulrik Arneberg (23/1) and midfielder Mathias Fredriksen (23/2) are suspended.
Sandnes Ulf is in even better form than Mjondalen these days with 6-2-0 and 20:5 from their last eight games. It looks like they have overcome the various form that troubled them earlier and found the flow that is worthy a team with players of this caliber. Several players have played in Tippeligaen earlier and it has been strange to witness their poor performances in some of the early matches this season. Their top scorer Pontus Engblom has been a shining star all season though and he is naturally the main cause for Sandnes Ulf’s 4th place at the table right now. With 13-6-7 and 45 points it is still possible to chase down 2nd placed Sandefjord five points ahead even if it is only four games left of the season. However, it is also just four points out of top six which gives no qualification at all. It is therefore highly important to remain focused despite their recent success. Rock bottom Raufoss became no problem at all last weekend with Sandnes Ulf taking a comfortable 3-0 win.
With both teams being involved in the battle for top 6, it should be easy to find motivation for both teams here. Mjondalen has been looking very strong in their last two games, but the same thing can be said about Sandnes Ulf’s games. I predict a game with high tempo and at least three goals to be involved.
