Midtjylland vs Manchester United by 20Legend
Midtjylland played their last official game against Club Brugge in the Europa League group stage at December 10th last year. A 1-1 draw against them gave them a 2nd place in Group D, two points ahead of Club Brugge. Their recent period has been filled with six club friendlies from January 21st and until their last match against Horsens (4-2) on February 13th. They have not done any outstanding performances in their training matches and it seems like it will be tough to face a Premier League opponent at this time. Midtjylland has met various Danish and Swedish opponents and have only 1-4-1 to show for. Their best opponents have been AIK (0-0) Goteborg (2-2) and Malmo (1-1). Their biggest offensive weapons will be the striking-duo Martin Pusic (former Hull) and the big local talent Pione Sisto.
Their experienced midfielder Jacob Poulsen is suspended after getting three yellow cards in the group stage. Keeper Johan Dahlin is also missing with a knee injury.
It is almost not any point in analyzing how Manchester United is doing at the moment as everybody that follows the game would know. They are experienced yet another horrible season as Louis Van Gaal definitely has big problems with leading his team and handle the clubs hopes of improvement. They come from the most humiliating loss of the season against Sunderland (2-1) last weekend; which gives them a six-point gap up to the top four teams in Premier League. The Europa League may therefore be their only option in order to qualify for Champions League next season. They did not win any of their matches in the CL-group stage earlier this season (0-1-2) either and finished in 3rd place in the group.
The injury list is very long. Their captain, Wayne Rooney, has been ruled out for two months which is close to crisis for this team that are already struggling in all games they play this season. In addition, right-back Matteo Darmian is out with a dislocated shoulder from the game against Sunderland. Marouane Fellaini, Luke Shaw, Gulliermo Varela, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Adnan Januzaj are also missing. That situation has included the youngsters Will Keane, Donald Love, Regan Poole, Joe Riley and James Weir in the squad to Denmark.
You would normally pick a win for United 10/10 times, but not with the current situation both on and off the pitch at this moment. Midtjylland has not shown them at this level since December which also makes it difficult to predict what they will be able to offer. Manchester United will be the favorites on paper anyway, but I tend to go for goals in this match. Both teams have good chances of scoring, but Manchester United got the individuals that could create the little extra if everything works out. The hosts will have nothing to lose while Manchester United must get a result to build on, as the ticket for next year’s Champions League may be at stake. It is also important for them to calm things a bit down surrounding the Louis Van Gaal situation. I disagree with the bookmakers and pick the odds on over 2.5 goals with a nice value tonight.
