Mersin vs Genclerbirligi by Isaiah
Mersin comes from a 1:0 defeat away to Fenerbahce during te last weekend. Generally, the team failed to show anything in their offensive phases, while the hosts had complete control over the game and could have walked away with even bigger margin victory.
Very difficult schedule is now past Mersin, as the team returns to their stadium where they play great football this year and have surprised everyone till now with five victories and only one draw and one defeat. After consecutive negative results, with as said, tough schedule, the team has fallen to ninth position, but with six points away from Europa League fourth position. Last Thursday, they took a 3:0 victory over Karagumruk at home, fielding the team with many substitute players. First choice goalkeeper Nihat Sahin (14/0) is returning tonight after serving his suspension, while the hosts count couple of very long term absentees.
Genclerbirligi, on the other side, comes from a 1:1 draw at home against Galatasaray last weekend. Although the hosts were down in the scoreline very early, they found a way to improve the morale, found courage and attacked a lot, before reaching the equalizer in 71st minute via Bogdan Stancu.
Overall impression is that they played pretty smart and deserved their point in a more than a fair way. They are now without defeat in last four matches, as the team slowly gets up on the table. Last Thursday, they had a goalless draw against Giresunspor at home, in a game of Turkish Cup, a setback but the team is already almost qualified for the next stage, while they used some fringe players in that one. Important striker Bogdan Stancu (15/6) won't be available for this one, while out of the action till the end of the season will be central defender Hikmet Balioglu (7/0).
This game comes as a very important one for both teams, as both of them will look for the victory. Open game with lots of offensive phases is expected from both sides, with both teams scoring coming probably very easily, maybe even after the first halftime.
