Marseille vs Ajax by 20Legend
Marseille takes on their third friendly this summer as their previous matches have ended with a win and one lose. They started off by losing against the Swiss team Lausanne (1-2), but came back with a win against Nimes (0-1) three days later. Ajax comes from two friendlies, but neither of their performances has been satisfying in terms of defending. Their first match ended with a loss against Liefering (3-4) from Austria.
Ajax came to the game after a tough week of training and used two different lineups during the game. Even though Ajax managed to produce some big chances it was Liefering that took the lead after 14 minutes. Instead of getting an equalizer they went down 2-0 only seven minutes later after a brilliant effort from Liefering’s Dimitri Oberlin found the net. Liefering kept the lead until halftime before Ajax’ new coach Pieter Bosz made 11 changes towards the second half.
With nine youngsters it was the two regular players Anwar El Ghazi and Nick Viergever that had to take responsibility. After 20 minutes of the second half, El Ghazi lived up to his side of the responsibility with two quick goals that equalized the score. The following ten minutes were also interesting as the teams managed to score a goal each.
The young Ajax side was looking to get a draw, but Liefering destroyed the day in stoppage time with a final goal to finish the game with the score 3-4. The other match ended with 2-2 against an amateur team from their own country; AFC. Ajax did also play two friendlies behind closed doors last weekend and continued loosing against Gent (0-2) and Krylya Sovetov (1-2). Ajax did use different lineups, but got the chance to use their two new players with defender Heiko Westermann and striker Mateo Cassiera making their debuts.
Goals should be the case tonight as both teams have good offensive players that can take advantage from poor defensive performances. Marseille showed that it is naturally too early for them being at their best, with two goals conceded against Lausanne. On the other side, Ajax has been horrible defensively, but it is because of using several youngsters which automatically makes the team more vulnerable. Both teams should use their best possible lineup available here though and it is their toughest match so far. I expect both teams to continue growing and choose over 2.5 goals as my pick.
