Lillestrom vs Start by 20Legend

Lillestrom is literally fighting for their existence at the moment and it has been boosting their results in the last two games. After beating their fellow strugglers Stabaek (1-2) away from home, they grabbed an even stronger win agasint 2nd placed Brann (1-2) away from home last week. It Lillestrom’s best performance all season as they managed to give Brann their first home loss this season (10-3-1) which no other team has managed. The whole team was pulling in the same direction with duals and hard work for each other. Brann was controlling the ball, but it was Lillestrom that looked like the sharpest team on the pitch.

After taking the lead after 30 minutes, they got back to earth when Brann levelled the score just 10 minutes into the second half. It was a big nerve in the game, but the substitution of Erling Knudtzon after 85 minutes gave them the vital goal only seconds after he came on. The win brought Lillestrom up in 14th place with just one point up to 13th placed Tromso who has the safe spot. With 15th placed Stabaek sudden collapse in the dying minutes against Sarpsborg 08 (1-2) yesterday, it will be a huge step for Lillestrom with a win tonight. Midfielder Bassel Jradi (24/4) and striker Gary Martin (8/3) are suspended tonight.

Start is relegated and the weakest team the whole season and it is not any questions if they deserve to be relegated or not. Their bad results have been endless, but they have taken their first two wins inside their last three games, both against Haugseund (1-0) and Tromso (2-1) last weekend. It was a very strong win for Start to pull off as Tromso is in a very tough battle to avoid being relegated themselves. The away team grabbed the lead after just four minutes, while Start turned the game around within the next 24 minutes. After a highly entertaining first half with chances both ways, it turned out to be a nervous battle in the second half. Start was eager to give their home fans something more to cheer about in a miserable season, while Tromso had to push for a vital point.

It turned out to chances for both teams this time too, but it also led to several rough duals. Start got a huge pressure against them when they got a player sent off after 77 minutes, but Tromso was not able to find the net despite producing opportunities that was needed. Start’s second win this season was therefore a fact when the referee gave the final signal. The two defenders Rolf Daniel Vikstol (20/0) and Robert Sandnes (21/1) are both suspended in this match.

Lillestrom is simply forced to win this game in order to keep the cards on their side in order to make it this season. With the big derby against Valerenga away from home and a home game against 5th placed Molde, it is their best chance of making three points tonight. Start has nothing but honor to play for now, and even if that has given them two home wins, they have still no wins away from home (0-5-8). Lillestrom have to win and it is not possible to ask for a better chance than to face an already relegated team tin order to do that. I expect Lillestrom to be the dominant team and think that the Asian handicap will be a wise decision in this game.
