Lazio vs Sampdoria by Enzo
Lazio had a double lead away to Inter in the previous game they played before the holiday break, taking it with goals from Anderson in 2nd and 37th minute, but home players did much better in the second half and managed to equalize with goals in 66th and 80th minute, near the end of the game, visitors were threatened even with defeat.
Event though they left the field with mixed feelings, the team actually did pretty well till now in the season, having seven points more compared to the same period in previous season. Tonight, they want to continue their good run and keep the European positions, but also to improve their morale before a great city derby against Roma next weekend. Left back Edson Braafheid (11/0) is injured for this game, same as central defender Santiago Gentiletti (2/0) and midfielder Ederson (2/1). Midfielders Lucas Biglia (11/1), winger Antonio Candreva (13/2) and back Bruno Pereirinha (1/0) are back in contention after overcoming injuries.
Sampdoria closed the previous year with a draw in Genoa against Udinese. They took the lead with a goal from Obiang in 15th minute, but were soon down 1:2 with goals within three minutes, in 31st and 34th minute. Finally, Gabbiadini scored their second goal in 60th minute for the final draw.
With this draw, team continued being at the third position, having collected ten points more than at the same period in last season, while the team counts seven consecutive matches were both teams have scored, showing how open and attacking football they tend to play. With the sale of forward Manolo Gabbiadini to Napoli, they have lost important part of their attack, but also added very expensive Correa from Estudiantes and should have similar quality in their offense. Injured remain back Matias Silvestre (14/0), while defender Djamel Mesbah is out for the African Cup of Nations. Central defender Alessio Romagnoli has returned (10/1) has returned after recovering from injury.
Sampdoria has experienced only one defeat this year since the start of the league and this shows that Lazio surely won't have an easy game here. On contrary, visitors are nowhere close to pushovers here, in a probably very open game where both teams should get decent amount of goalscoring chances.
