Hibernian vs Motherwell

Hibernian improved a lot in the second part of the previous season as they had only one defeat in the last four months of the competition. In the end, they have ended the season on the fourth position with only three points less than giants from Rangers.

The season has started much earlier for Hibernian than for other Scottish sides, as the team had to play from the first round of Europa League. The side had quite easy games in the first round against NSI Runavik, as those clashes obviously suited them well to prepare for the next season. They easily overpowered the opponent in a home match with a 6:1 result, while they had goal festival on the road winning the game with a 4:6 result.

The side had a much more difficult job in the second round, facing up against Greek side Asteras Tripolis and getting a 3:2 victory week and a half ago. They had difficult match on the road last Thursday evening walking away with a 1:1 draw.

It proved to be a very difficult opponent for them, as they were losing with 0:2 down in the scoreline in the first leg but managed to improve in last thirty minutes. The side played the second match with a man more in the second halftime but they were under quite heavy pressure towards the end.

Goalkeeper Ofir Marciano should not be playing here due finger problem. He didn't play in Europa League matches either.

Motherwell had a decent previous season, as the side ended up playing in the relegation group but looked far more concrete and stable than the rest of the opponents finishing first in the end with two points more than St Johnston and far away from relegation troubles.

However, the things got improved in FA Cup and the fans had some joy as they ended up playing in the big Finals against Celtic losing it with a 2:0 in the end. The side won over Crusaders and Darlington during the preparation matches, having a goalless draw against Dunfermline. They also had Betfred Cup matches as part of preparations.

The side won over Edinburgh City 5:0, had a draw (and a penalty kicks loss) to Stranraer, but improved on and won over Queen of South 2:0. In the last match, they won away from home against Clyde 1:3. Maybe they have taken the opponent bit lightly and were down in the scoreline, however, have improved as the match progressed.

Finally, they overpowered the opponent thanks to three goals within last fifteen minutes. Goalscorers were Main, Johnson, and Sammon. Left-back Charles Dunne is injured, as well as midfielder Craig Tanner and forward Ryan Bowman.

  • Hibernian have scored at least 2 goals in their last 4 home matches against Motherwell.

Hibernian is a favorite here but they are coming from very difficult match away in Greece. Motherwell did show some decent offensive quality in most recent matches and their bigger involvement in this match isn't out of the question. That's the main reason why my first betting choice will be over goals, something that can easily happen already in the first halftime.
