Heerenveen vs AZ Alkmaar by Meese
Heerenveen got completely outplayed in previous Eredivisie game last Sunday afternoon, as they welcomed Vitesse and even though were slight favorites, got more defensive than what they should and despite having more of the ball possession, the team failed to do something more concrete in attack.
Instead of it, Vitesse looked quite dangerous in attack during the whole game and completely deserved these three points, scoring two goals in each halftime (via Rashica and Linssen in first halftime and Foor and Matavz in second). This was third consecutive defeat for Heerenveen as the side now dropped out of the play-off zone having just two less than their today's opponents from Alkmaar. The side also got excluded in Dutch Cup during the midweek suffering 2:1 defeat away to Willem II.
Hosts could be playing in 4-3-3 formation with central striker Ghoochannejhad and with Rojas and Odegaard as wingers. Hosts have fully available squad to choose from and manager Jurgen Streppel could retain much of the lineup he fielded last time out.
Az Alkmaar, on the other side, had actually quite easy home game against Utrecht last weekend celebrating victory with a 3:0 result on Sunday afternoon. Ball possession went with the visiting side, but it's just due the fact that AZ was leading for a lot of time and were in position to stay behind the ball a bit being satisfied with the outcome.
Other than that, they showed to be way more threatening in attack and used chances better, taking the lead in 21st minute via Koopmeiners, adding two more in the second halftime via Jahanbakhsh in 62nd minute and van Overeem in 80th minute. The side is now at sixth position, with just three points less than second and Champions League placed Ajax, surely wanting another positive result here. During the midweek, they easily overpowered Almere City on the road in Dutch Cup with a 4:0 result.
Guests are set to play also in offensive 4-3-3 formation with Jahanbakhsh, Weghorst and Overeem as forwards. Forward Calvin Stengs (1/0) is injured, same as midfielder Marko Vejinovic (7/0), central defender Rens van Eijden (1/0) and important central back Ron Vlaar (6/0).
- SC Heerenveen have seen over 2.5 goals in 6 of their last 7 home matches against AZ Alkmaar.
- AZ Alkmaar have scored at least 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 away matches against SC Heerenveen.
Heerenveen go into this match actually having lost last three Eredivisie matches and four competitive games, being close to a must win situation in order to revert their atmosphere inside the locker room. AZ Alkmar also surely will be going for a victory here wanting to confirm their position within the top teams, it's something that grant us quite open game. Both teams anyway do way better in attack than what their defensive lineups are showing reliability.
