Guimaraes vs Gil Vicente by Neuro
Guimaraes comes from one of rare defeats this season, as the team suffered 2:0 loss away to Setubal in the League Cup competition during the midweek. Coach Rui Vitoria tried to change a lot during the game, mixing the squad with fringe players, but failed to get anything positive out of it. On the bright side, at least his key players will now be fresh for much more important league game.
Last weekend team won at home with impressive 4:0 result against Academica, once again showing that they surely are the most positive surprise in this season's Primeira Liga edition. Currently, they are fourth at the table with only two points away from Champions League placed Sporting and three points above fifth placed Braga. In last nine matches in all competitions, Guimaraes actually has only two victories, but changing their squad a lot in Cup competitions and trying to preserve key players for more important games. However, they now have to respond with another positive performance, to keep their chances for European positions, but to improve the morale even further as well. They continue the season without left back Traore (15/0) who was sold to Swiss side Basel. Midfielder Alex (12/1) is injured, same as Bruno Alves (7/0) and striker Jonathan Alves (8/4), all three missing for few weeks already.
Gil Vicente, on the other hand, comes from yet another defeat, this time at home against Maritimo with a narrow 0:1 result during the midweek, as the team practically lost the chances to qualify for the next stage. Only goal was scored in 45th minute from the penalty kick taken by Maazou, while the hosts had no answer whatsoever in the repetition.
Visitors slowed down the table and were happy with the lead, while the hosts lacked fighting spirit and creativity in order to give some proper respond. This was third defeat in a row for them in all competition, without scoring a single goal in the progress. This was also seventh defeat in last eight matches, with the team being stuck at the rock bottom position of the league with only nine points and one victory so far - that's still only three points below the safe zone thanks to poor form of other teams as well. Coach Jose Mota has two new faces available for this game - striker Valente and midfielder Goncalves. On the other side, forward Paulinho (8/1) and Ebralidze (6/1) continue to miss due injuries, same as midfielder Luan (11/0).
Despite not that good form of Guimaraes of late, they should be able to get all three points here in rather easy fashion. They showed that poor form is past them last weekend and should now be more than ready and well prepared for this game having rested key players during the midweek League Cup game. Gil Vicente didn't show anything positive till now away from home and so should be this night.
