Groningen vs Go Ahead Eagles by Neuro
Groningen had one of the most impressive performances this season, winning 4:0 at home against Vitesse on Wednesday evening as a part of quarter-final game of Dutch Cup. At first, the game was quite equal with actually Vitesse having more of the ball possession, but once the visitors stood with a man less in 62nd minute, everything collapsed for them on the field.
Since then, only players of Groningen were active on the ground, getting an easy victory thanks to goals from Chery, de Leeuw, van Nieff and Kieftenbeld. As for the Eredivisie, team didn't win in last five matches, but also had quite tough schedule, coming from a 2:2 draw at home against Utrecht last weekend, as the visitors were very effective from the chances they created. Anyhow, the team will now try to rely on their generally good performnaces at home this season, as the team has 4-5-0 home record, trying to get another three pointer and push themselves towards the first seven positions that will play the play-off stage. Midfielder Tom Hiariej (16/0) is still injured, same as Lorenzo Burnet (left full back, 2/0). Coach Erwin van de Looi will miss couple of more unimportant players this time, those that have no single playing minute this season.
Go Ahead Eagles come into this game after a narrow 1:0 home victory over Den Haag last weekend. The game itself was quite boring, with neither of the teams risking a lot, but the deciding factor happened in 40th minute when the visiting side stood with a man less following exclusion of Wormgoor. Couple of minutes later, hosts got into the lead from the penalty spot when van der Linden was precise.
This was their first victory after four straight defeats, as they continue to be in the danger zone, but now three points above the play-out placed Heracles. Disregarding everything, it's almost sure that the team will be near the relegation battle till the end of the season, especially with the way they play away from home, having only one victory in ten matches. Positive news for them is that Giliano Wijnaldum however returns from suspension for this game, while the team continues to play without central defender Robin van der Meer (no performance yet in the season) and central midfielder Peter van Ooijen (8/0) due to injuries.
Go Ahead Eagles looks like one level below team when playing on the road and there is no better opponent for Groningen at this moment in order to bounce back to positive results. More easy than the bookies expect, Groningen should obtain new home three pointer, wihout experiencing problems in last quarter of the match.
