Grasshoppers vs Sion by Gustav
Grasshoppers comes from a derby game last weekend at home against Basel, but it was a derby match only on papers, since the players of Basel took an easy 4:0 victory, while the players of Grasshoppers looked really unable to resist to the superiority of their opponents. After this defeat, their title bid is completely lost now, as they have now fifteen points less than Basel and should focus on getting the second position and a qualification spot for Champions League.
they were down already in 12th minute with a goal from Lang, while Suchy doubled up the lead eight minutes later. Visitors stood playing with a man less in 31st minute, but it didn't help much to the home team that conceded two more goals in the repetition, against via Lang and Zuffi. As said, they remain to be on the second position, but now only with a point more than Young Boys and are really in a must win situation here, not only to keep the distance away from Young Boys, but also to increase the atmosphere. Substitute midfielder Manuel Kubli (1/0) is injured, while defender Benjamin Luthi (18/0) isn't probably 100% ready for this game and will hardly play.
Sion, on the other side, suffered 1:2 defeat at home against Braga last Thursday evening in the knock-out stage of Europa League and have severely weakened their chances of progressing further to the next stage. Overall, it was quite an open game where the Portuguese side proved to be more effective, even though the Swiss side did create more good chances in front of opponents goal.
As for the domestic league, the side played only one game so far, as their previous leg against St Gallen got postponed last weekend, so they had only one game so far - narrow 1:0 victory over Zurich away from home back on seventh February. Left full back Pa Modou (15/0) is suspended for today's game, while the visitors also miss midfielder Joaquim Adao (2/0), defensive midfielder Xavier Kouassi (11/0) and important central defender Elsad Zverotic (17/0) and strker Ilombe Mboyo (who didn't play this season so far anyway).
Sion played their European game just couple of days ago and I believe this game will be quite difficult for them. Grasshoppers needs to respond here after heavy defeat against Basel and should be able to get the victory. First choice remains with the goals, since Sion isn't naive at all and can easily involve themselves on the scoresheet as well.
