Graafschap vs Feyenoord
Graafschap surely had a positive previous season as the team managed to fight out their way to promotion to the Eredivisie in the end. They ended up at the fourth position in the regular part the season, earning their position in additional playoff rounds.
Surely that the additional matches were quite difficult as they narrowly progressed over Almere City and Telstar with one goal difference in two-legged games. As for the friendlies, they had some victories over amateur clubs and Cambuur, suffering narrow defeats to PAOK and Aris.
- In the last friendly match before the new season, the team had a 1:1 draw against Syrian Al Jazira side last Friday afternoon.
Serrarens should lead their attack in a version of a 4-2-3-1 formation. Mieghem, Jeli, and Hamdaoui should be the offensive help. They should have no fresh injury worries ahead of this clash.
Feyenoord started the season well at first, as the side managed to snatch the trophy of the Dutch super cup winning on penalties against PSV last Saturday afternoon. Players of PSV did dominated during the game and were better, but couldn't find a way to score.
On the other side, players from Feyenoord were quite passive but stood generally well in the defense doing very little in attack. Finally, they were luckier and more concentrated for the penalties series.
- However, a huge wake-up call came on Thursday evening when the team visited Slovakian side Trencin in the third round of Europa League qualifiers.
They suffered 4:0 defeat away to Trencin in the third qualifying round even though the side wasn't that poor on the field. It simply wasn't their day and no doubt that they did deserve a better outcome. Their chances are extra slim for the next Thursday evening, but no doubt that the team will give their best to remain with a chance during the match.
Visitors are set to play in a version of 4-2-3-1 formation too with van Persie as a central striker. Offensive midfielders should be Berghuis, Toornstra, and Larsson. Forward Robin van Persie has some problems with fitness but should be ready to play. Defender Botteghin (played in Super Cup finale) should be absent due to personal reasons.
Midfielder Yassine Ayou who was signed this Summer won't be playing. Striker Nicolai Jorgensen is also sidelined (last season's top scorer). Left-back Ridgeciano Haps and defender Renato Tapia are also sidelined due to injuries.
Feyenoord is far away from their best form and quality in offense and that's where I see the chance for the home team. Moreover, they surely will rotate teh players a bit having in mind that they have Europa League duties in between. One way or another, visiting side can't be such a favorite with their performances shown in previous few weeks.
