Gladbach vs Wolfsburg by Gustav
Gladbach didn't manage to get a positive result last time out, even though the team had all the chances to walk away with something away to Augsburg last Saturday evening. The game itself was quite a defensive one and the teams didn't look specially well in offense, but still the visiting side did more and actually deserved something out the match.
Guests also had more of the ball possession, but the hosts were those who proved to be more efficient, scoring only goal in 75th minute via Hinteregger. Gladbach is now at thirteenth position with sixteen points earned only, which is ten less than Europa League placed Eintracht and just four more than relegating worried Ingolstadt. Team managed to get a home victory in previous match against Mainz and are desperate now to continue their home momentum at least.
Midfielders Marvin Schulz (no performance this season) and Christoph Kramer (13/0) are doubtful for this match as are at late stage of recovery. Kramer could be replaced by Tobias Strobl in central midfield. Defender Fabian Johnson (12/1) is injured, as well as midfielders Ibrahima Traore (7/0) and Patrick Herrmann (6/0). Home side should be playing with 4-4-2 formation and Raffael and Stindl as forwards.
Wolfsburg, on the other side, managed to get a victory last weekend as they welcomed Eintracht Frankfurt and a bit surprisingly won over them with a narrow 1:0 result. It was their first victory after five negative results where they had only one point taken. Players of Wolfsburg entered the game better and took the lead in 33rd minute with a goal from Bruma.
Guests tried to respond and had the ball possession in their favor, however without creating much chances, while hosts somehow stood more threatening on counter attacks. Team is now at fifteenth position, just a point above relegating worried Ingolstadt and five points above rock bottom placed Darmstadt.
Defender Marcel Schafer (4/0), midfielder Daniel Didavi (6/2) and forward Ismail Azzaoui (no performance anyway this season) remain all injured and out. Wolfsburg should be playing in 3-5-1-1 formation with Gomez as central striker, plus offensive midfielder Draxler. Luiz Gustavo should get another chance at the central back position, despite still wanting to leave the club in January. Manager Valerien Ismael has no reason to change much.
- Borussia M.Gladbach are undefeated in their last 6 home matches against Wolfsburg.
Gladbach have only one victory in last ten Bundesliga matches and are under huge pressure to end the year with a positive result. I'm quite sure that the team will be able to respond here against a side that is even under bigger pressure. They did well last weekend, but two positive results would be too much for them this time.
