Gladbach vs Werder by Gustav
With the re-start of Bundesliga, Gladbach suffered two defeats, quite worrying ones since the team suffered 1:3 defeat against Dortmund at home, without being really competitive in that one, while they also got narrowly defeated last weekend away to Mainz 1:0. Hosts entered the game better, taking the lead in 22nd minute Clemens, while the vistors responded in order to seek for the equalizer at least.
Till the end of the game, players of Gladbach actually looked quite competitive and were better, deserving surely at least a point, if not all three. However, it simply wasn't their day as the side missed plenty of goalscoring chances. With these two defeats, they are now at sixth position, having only two points less than Champions League fourth placed Leverkusen, so no doubt that the victory is their primary target for this one. Home side will be playing in 4-4-2 formation with Raffael and Stindl as their strikers. Central midfielder Granit Xhaka (15/3) is still suspended, while the team continues miss absentees defenders Tony Jantschke (9/0), left backs Alvaro Dominguez (6/0), Nico Schulz (1/0), right midfielder Andre Hahn (7/2) and forward Patrick Herrmann (6/1), all with quite limited number of performances this season. Mahmoud Dahoud will probably return after a hand injury to central midfield.
Werder Bremen had quite a good start of the second part, since the team managed to pull out a 3:1 victory away from home against Schalke two weeks before, while they snatched a point in a home draw against in-form Hertha Berlin in a 3:3 score. The team had more of the ball possession and had more chances created, looking overall better on the field, but paid the price of defensive gaps they have all season long.
Visitors took the double lead in first halftime, host temporarily reduced in 67th via Bartels, but again conceded a goal, however didn't surrender and got rewarded for their fighting spirit with goals from Pizarro in 75th and 77th minute. They remained better on the field and if one of the teams was to get a victory on that day, that was surely a side from Bremen. Werder, on the other side, will be playing in 4-4-2 formation with Pizarro and Ujah as their forwards. Left back/central defender Santiago Garcia (15/0) is suspended, injured are midfielder Ulisses Garcia (9/0), left full back Janek Sternberg (5/0), forward Aron Johansson (6/2), left midfielder Florian Grillitsch (11/0) and central midfielder Philipp Bargfrede (14/0). Alejandro Galvez will be playing as central defender tonight.
Gladbach have lost last three out of four matches in Bundesliga and the team is now close to desperate in order to turn the things around. Werder also remains in a must win situation since the team remains at the play-out position. They have showed to be very concrete in attack, but with completely unreliable defense. I expect both teams to play really open, which surely suits more to the home side Gladbach.
