Gladbach vs Manchester City by Luke
Gladbach had a terrible start in the new season, which was accompanied with a 3:o defeat away to Sevilla in the Champions League opening game, result that surely leaves them no option but to go for all three points against English side Manchester City this night. In the mean time, they improved the situation after five consecutive defeats in Bundesliga with two most recent victories and surely have improved the atmosphere inside the locker room as well.
They looked more or less equal in the first halftime against Sevilla, but their game play and tactics have completely collapsed in the second halftime when they paid the price of careless defending as the Spaniards got three penalty kicks awarded, missing one in the progress, while the final victory could have been even with a bigger margin as the home side looked deadly serious in final touch. However, as said, they improved the form in the previous two rounds of Bundesliga, winning over Augsburg 4:2 at home, but also impressing last weekend away from home against Stuttgart 3:1. With improved morale, they have no other option but to look for a victory here as well, being in such a strong group where they can't afford to drop points at home. Central defender Martin Stranzl (1/0) is injured, while the hosts have right back/stopper Tony Jantscke (5/0) doubtful for this one.
Manchester City had a perfect start in the new season, but the team seems to be getting out of it in recent weeks. After five consecutive victories in Premier League, Citizens now have suffered two consecutive losses, against West Ham 1:2 at home and complete disappointment away from home against Tottenham 4:1 last weekend. All started going in a wrong way from the first round of Champions League when the team got defeated at home against Juventus 1:2.
English side had more of ball possession and looked a bit more concrete, even took the lead with an own goal at the start of the second half, however completely failed in the defense in last twenty minutes of the game, as the Italians took the victory with goals from Mandzukic in 70th and Morata in 81st minute. After that defeat, the Citizens simply need to get a victory here in order to stay competitive for first two places as any other result would complicate their future even further. Coach Manuel Pellegrini is without injured four players: defensive midfielder Fabian Delph (2/0), left back Gael Clichy, central defenders Eliaquim Mangala (7/0) and Vincent Kompany (6/2), while striker Wilfried Bony is doubtful. Right back Pablo Zabaleta is not fully fit for this one.
Both teams are playing very attractive and offensive football. Having in mind that they both work better in offense than in defense and that they need to search for all three points here, everything except three goals here would be a huge surprise for me in this one.
