Genoa vs Fiorentina by Enzo
Genoa had quite a decent performance last Monday evening away to Napoli, but still losing that one out with a 2:1 result. However, it has to be said that the visiting side was equal for most of the time, having their own ammount of goalscoring chances and weren't outplayed in any aspect of the game for all ninety minutes.
Napoli took the lead already in seventh minute via Higuain, while the guests tried to respond from then on, finally managing to equalize in 56th minute via Falque. Once again the hosts upped the tempo near the end of the game and got the victory from the penalty spot in 76th minute, goalscorer was Higuain again. As said, it was a positive performance from Genoa and they could be satisfied with it, but the team still remains with no victory in last six rounds, having only two draws in the progress. In last four matches they have scored seven goals, with the defensive lineup being the weakest link of their team. At home they didn't win in last three games, but showing rather okay performances, while they currently stand just below the European positions, having six points less than fifth placed Sampdoria. Left back Luca Antonelli (18/3) is suspended and defender Luca Antonini (7/1) is injured, so Armando Izzo might be moved back at left-back. Offensive midfielder Andrea Bertolacci (19/1) is suspended as well, with forward Alessandro Matri (16/7) being injured.
Fiorentina had quite dominant role in the first half of the previous game when they welcomed Roma, but only stayed with a 1:1 draw in the end. They took the lead in 19th minute via Gomez, having some more good chances to double up the lead, but the picture was reverted in the second half. Ljajic quickly equalized in 49th minute, giving a morale boost to their players, who dominated the repetition and could have even completely overturn the score.
This draw interrupted their streak of three consecutive victories for Viola, but nobody will be unhappy with the result as Roma surely is one of the strongest sides in the country. Team now needs to continue with their uptrend and find a way to get a European ticket till the end of the season, being currently three points away from fifth placed Sampdoria and five points away from Champions League third placed Napoli. Juan Guillermo Cuadrado is very close to sign for Chelsea so his participation here isn't very likely. Defensive midfielder David Pizzaro (21/0) is suspended for this game, while the team also can't count at central defender Stefan Savic (20/2). Forwards Federico Bernardeschi (8/2) and Giuseppe Rossi (no performance yet in the season) are both long term absentees.
Open game is expected between two sides that work much better in offense than in defense. Fiorentina works very well in attack in previous weeks and will surely be looking for a victory here, while the hosts simply have to step up now and also search for a three pointer in direct game of teams that search for European positions and the match might overwrite one of them in that battle.
