Genk vs St Truiden
Genk looked extremely well in the season-opening game when they outplayed Lokeren with a 0:4 result away from home. Pozuelo brought them into the lead already in the third minute, while they didn't wait long to double up the lead in the 16th minute via Malinovsky.
It was much easier for them to play since then, as Ndongala scored his first goal in the season in the 61st minute. Hosts played with a man less in last twenty minutes of the game, while the superiority of Genk was confirmed with a goal from Trossard in the 73rd minute. Overall, Lokeren had very little offensive phases and it was more than deserved victory for Genk that showed to be one of the most in-form sides at the moment in Jupiler league.
The side already showed a decent level of quality in the pre-season matches when they won over sides like Mouscron 5:2, Valenciennes 4:1, and Olympiakos 4:0. They also have played second round Europa League qualifiers matches against Fola, the first leg winning with a 5:0 result before starting the domestic league, so it sure did help them in some way. A bit rotated squad was seen last Wednesday afternoon when they outplayed Fola once again with a 1:4 victory.
Foward Marcus Ingvartsen should remain sidelined after not being able to perform this season due to a knee problem. Offensive Joseph Paintsil is also not ready yet, while defensive midfielder Vladimir Screciu also can't perform coming still from injury. Neither one of them had playing minutes this season anyway.
St Truiden, on the other side, was quite a favorite in their season-opening game when the side welcomed Cercle Brugge last Saturday evening. Despite being favorites on the paper they failed to show any kind of superiority or dominance on the field.
On contrary, players from Cercle Brugge were threatening more and looked far better with the ball to their feet. It seemed like the first halftime was more open, with both teams having some decent chances. However, it was different in second as the visitors looked more dangerous and could have snatched all three points. Fr sure, if one of the teams deserved more, that would definitely be the visiting side.
Central defender Sasha Kotysch is doubtful with a knee injury but anyway didn't play this season.
Genk is showing huge potential for the new season already early into it. St Truiden might be even worse than in previous season as their first game didn't give them many reasons to be satisfied. Individual quality, but also the momentum is completely with the home team and everything but an easy victory for them will be a surprise.
