Fulham vs Wigan by Luke
Fulham comes from a London derby in the previous game away to Charlton that finished in a 1:1 result. Both goals were scored very early, as Fulham took the lead in eight minute via McCormack in eight minute, but the hosts responded already after seven minutes of play thanks to goal from Gudmundsson.
The game itself had good rhythm, with Fulham looking like a more threatening side, but failed to use the opportunities they have created. Near the end of the game, neither of the teams looked like they want to risk a lot and were rather satisfied with a point taken. With this draw, Fulham is now eight points away from the relegation battle and since there is not huge numbers of games left, it's hard to see them getting into the relegation trouble further more. Important defender Hutchison returns to the starting lineup after serving suspension, while Bryan Ruiz and Alexander Kacaniklic could both come into the game later, after making an impact from the bench in last game. Defenders Nikolay Bodurov and Jack Grimmer are doubtful, but with chances to recover in time.
Wigan, on the other side, suffered a 0:2 defeat at home against Derby last Monday evening. They have actually started hopeful into the game, losing a great opportunity, but gradually Derby started playing better and better and balanced the game. First halftime has ended without goals, but the visiting side took the lead after the start of second half with a goal from Martin in 51st minute.
Wigan generally failed to react later on, conceding another goal that sealed the visiting victory in 81st minute via Bent. This defeat was a reason for a coaching change, as they have appointed their ex-player Gary Caldwell, with the decision obviously being set towards the next season. It's really hard for Wigan to avoid the relegation now, being currently eight points below the safe zone with five matches till the end, they really need a miracle. However, they surely won't surrender before it's over and for this reason, to club has organized free bus to all the fans that want to visit this game. Having in mind that Wigan needs to win in order to stay competitive in relegation battle, coach Caldwell should field offensive formation. There is no fresh injury worries for the team.
Open game is expected here, as the game comes as a last chance for Wigan to remain with some hopes of avoiding the relegation. Fulham surely also wants to respond with better performance, but both teams scoring and over goals gather the first option for me in this match.
