Fulham vs Sheffield Wednesday by Luke
After a really poor September, it seems that Fulham is now really improving, as the team comes from two consecutive victories and in case they prove to be able to continue in the same manner, they will be able to enter the promotional battle with some chances of being successful there. After their impressive performance at home against Huddersfield and 5:0 victory, the team also won on the road against Brentford before the international break with a 2:0 result.
It was a very determined performance from the players of Fulham, who took over the control during the first halftime and deservedly took the lead in 36th minute via Aluko. Ball possession was quite equally shared from that moment on, but team from London remained with better chances created and being more concrete with the ball to their feet, in the end sealing the victory with a goal from Cairney in second minute of additional time. Fulham is now at eight position, with two points less than Leeds United on sixth position and therefore, if they want to get serious with the promotional battle, this match comes as a must win situation for them. Hosts have no fresh injury worries, they should be playing in 4-2-3-1 formation with Martin as central striker, plus Piazon, Aluko and Cairney as offensive midfielders.
Sheffield Wednesday seems to be in completely different momentum, since they come from two consecutive defeats and the team didn't look close to a positive one in previous weeks. After 2:0 defeat away from home against Derby County, they also suffered 2:1 defeat in front of own fans against Ipswich Town two weeks ago.
Players of Sheffield had much more of the ball possession and looked like controlling the things, but the efficiency was what was counting and that's where the visiting side was successful. Visitors took the lead in 32nd minute with a goal from Lawrence and even though the hosts leveled up the result just four minutes later via Hooper, guests again surprised, this time in 87th minute via Chambers leaving no time for the home team to respond further on. Surely that the atmosphere inside Sheffield's locker room isn't the best possible, but the team still remains just two points behind sixth placed Leeds, currently being at tenth position. Guests are set to play in 4-4-1-1 formation with Hooper as central striker and Forestieri as offensive midfielder.
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Fulham's last 4 home games (Championship).
We have two teams in completely different momentum, plus Sheffield Wednesday ins't recognized force away from home. Fulham does look more stable at the moment, but also with better individual quality and I surely don't see the visiting team celebrating here completely.
