Freiburg vs Leipzig by Gustav
Freiburg entered a bit ugly period, having two defeats in a row, at home over Wolfsburg 0:3 and in the most recent game played, away from home against Mainz in a 4:2 loss. It was a very open game from both ends and it could be said that the visiting team did much more on the field and deserved something more when looking at the chances, but their defensive lineup once again proved to be terrible.
Home side took the double lead in the first halftime thanks to goals from Bungert and Malli and even though visitors reduced in the second via Grifo, Bell reinstalled double lead for Mainz, just to see Petersen sealing the final result in 85th minute. Freiburg was losing for the most of the game and therefore were more attacking ones, but failed to be even more concrete in a match that could have ended differently easily on some other day.
Freiburg should be playing in 4-4-1-1 formation with Niederlechner in attack, plus Philipp as his offensive support. Injured remains defensive midfielder Jonas Meffert (1/0), few more that didn't play this season at all, while doubtful remains important central defender Caglar Soyuncu. Suspended for tonight's game is left back Christian Gunter (10/0).
Leipzig continued their winning streak in Bundesliga last weekend, when the team maybe a bit surprisingly won over Leverkusen away from home with a 3:2 result. Players of Leverkusen maybe even looked a bit better during the match and had a chance to seal the victory, but paid the price of it later in the game.
They took the lead already in first minute via Kampl, but the guests responded with an own goal just three minutes later. Brandt brougth the home team into the lead again in second minute of additional time in the first half, with the home team missing a penalty kick early in the second. That somehow blocked them for the rest of the match, while players of Leipzig got awarded for their fighting spirit and won the match thanks to goals from Orban and Forsberg. Sixth victory in a row in Bundesliga brought them into the leading position at the table now, having three points more than Bayern Munich and continuing to impress still being undefeated with eight victories and three draws.
Leipzig should continue in 4-4-2 formation with Werner and Poulsen as strikers. Right defenders Lukas Klostermann (1/0) and Bernardo (7/0) are injured for this one. Manager Ralph Hasenhuttl could field an unchanged squad here. Defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos is doutbful, but anyway shouldn't play.
- RasenBallsport Leipzig have won their last 6 matches (Bundesliga).
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in Freiburg's last 5 games (Bundesliga).
Leipzig showed much more in the season and is a favorite here, but Freiburg is in need of points and should be attacking as well. Visitors are on a run of six straight victories, trying to get the points with pressing high, but also being very dangerous on counter attacks - something that usually promises lots of goals.
